Sonic R is another racing game where Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, and Amy race against each other to get the chaos emeralds. This time it's the "Mobius Grand Prix." However, there are other characters that can be played with, namely Robotnik, Metal Sonic, Metal Knuckles, Tails Doll, Egg Robo, and Super Sonic.

First of all, in Sonic R, the play control is WAY OFF, and very very very different from normal Sonic games. Your characters steer like CARS; not characters--turns are extremely hard to make, the joystick is hyper-sensitive and slams you against the wall or throws you off the track at the slightest teensy touch in either direction, and you CANNOT go backwards--ya gotta slooooowwwwwly....pain-stak-ing-ly....turrrrrnn......arrrrrrooouuunnnnndddd...and then go FORWARDS in the opposite direction. Very very very annoying. (My brother won it on his second try on the whole game, EVER, with AMY! HA! And people say she's the very worst racer and totally worthless...yeah, right!)

ANYway--Knuckles (picture) in Sonic R. He's supposed to be the very best character--he's fast, (but not as fast as Sonic), handles fairly well, and has a good, useful special ability. He can still glide, but, he cannot--I repeat, CANNOT--climb. Not in Sonic R. He's supposedly the most balanced character.

If you're playing AGAINST Knuckles, beware, he's EVIL! He KNOWS ALL THE SHORTCUTS! And he USES them! He's smart, tricky, devious, FAST, and absolutely VICIOUS! In other words, he shows the same personality he showed in his first appearance in Sonic 3 for the Genesis... ;)

Metal-Knuckles (picture) is even WORSE. He's got laser-beams, can fly all the time, has mechanically-enchanced super-speed, AND knows all the shortcuts AND tends to do things like go through them and then rip up the track afterwards so you CAN'T get through....really really REALLY evil! ;)
