STORY

To begin, the Chaos Emeralds are being taken by a mysterious group called the Marauders. Knuckles and Tails' plan to catch the Marauders fails and Knuckles ends up being kidnapped. Tails manages to call on Sonic and Amy for help rescuing Knuckles while Big joins in due to wanting to help his friend Amy. Meanwhile, the activities of the Marauders cause (1) GUN to get involved using their agent, Rouge; (2) Shadow to get involved due to his inability to find Omega, who Shadow believes is in trouble; (3) Cream to get involved due to losing Cheese; and (4) Eggman to get involved due to the usage of his technology without permission. With the exception of certain areas, you get to choose at most three of the characters in your team (either Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles must be present in every team) in the quest to stop the Marauders' scheme, which other than collecting the Chaos Emeralds is unclear at the beginning.
