Troubles of Their Own By: SnowPuppy One cold and rainy day, Kay-Si was in the living room feeding newborn Dylan. Soon, he was sound asleep. Kay-Si put her newborn son back in his crib, which used to be Moonwatcher's crib, and went back into the living room. She was glad, very glad, that she and Steppenwolf had another child. She sat down on her chair and patiently waited for her husband and son to return. When they got back, Kay-Si was more than happy to see them again. But she was still a little worried, they were both pretty wet. Rain water dripped from their dreads, and fell onto the floor. "Okay, you two. Your both dripping wet! Please go and dry off. I dont know how many times this has happened. It's like a re-run, over and over!" Said Kay-Si worriedly. "About a hundred times." Said Moonwatcher. And thats when the storm got even worse. Kay-Si heard loud thunder, and when she looked out the window she seen a bolt of lightening strike accross the sky. Good thing they're both back and safe. Thought Kay-Si. When Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher were finished drying off, they all decided to go to bed. It was a very tiresome day. Kay-Si went to sleep quickly, and hoped that in the morning the rain would have stopped. When she awoke, she looked around the room. It was empty. She knew her husband had gone out for guard duty, and she also knew that her son had, also. She looked out the window, and was frightened to see that it was still raining. She jumped out of bed and ran into the living room. But they weren't there;they had to be outside still. Then she heard a cry.. it was Dylan. He was awake. Kay-Si went and picked Dylan up from his crib, and walked into the kitchen to give Dylan his breakfast. When Kay-Si was finished feeding him, she rocked him back to sleep, and put him back in his crib. Then she heard the door. She was glad that they were finally back in. But when she ran into the living room, she only seen her son, Moonwatcher. "Moonwatcher, where's your father?" Kay-Si asked. "That's what I'd like to know. We were walking up here, and that's when I found out he wasn't following me anymore. I dont know what happened to him!" Said Moonwatcher. "Oh, dear! Moonwatcher, I've got to find your father. I'll be back." Said Kay-Si, grabbing an umbrella. "Your not going out there, too, are you?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Of course I'm going out there!" Said Kay-Si. "Well, I'm coming with you!" Said Moonwatcher. "No, sweetheart. You must stay here with your brother Dylan." Said Kay-Si. "But.. but---!" Moonwatcher began, but his mother had already walked out the door. It was terrible out there, more than Kay-Si had imagined. There was rough winds and rain pouring down hardly at Kay-Si. But she couldn't give up. She walked, and walked, and walked, hoping to find her husband somewhere out here in the terrible storm. She called him over and over, hoping he would answer her. But so far, she had seen no sign of her husband. She wished that the wind and rain weren't crashing down forcefully onto her;it felt like it was trying to keep her from going on. She looked all over, but seen no sign of him. Tears streamed down her face. Where was he? Where was her husband? She did not know. But then, she thought of something. What if Steppenwolf had fallen off of the island? The winds were blowing really hard, they could easily knock him off of the island. Kay-Si didn't know what to do if she lost him. She sobbed at the thought, but decided to check if Steppenwolf was any where near the edge of the island. It was the only place that she hadn't looked yet. And when she peered over the edge of the island, she was right! There was Steppenwolf, holding on to the island as tight as he could. He soon noticed Kay-Si standing above him. "Kay-Si... please, you must get out of here before the wind blows you down, too!" Said Steppenwolf. "No! I will not leave you!" Said Kay-Si, leaning down to try and pull Steppenwolf up onto his feet. Finally, he made it. Kay-Si pulled him up and they fought the wind's forceful grasp against them, and made it home. Moonwatcher was glad that both of his parents were okay. He ran up to them and asked about what happened. He got told the whole story. He was amazed at what he was told. But soon, later on, they went about their day as usual, as if it never happened. One day, when Kay-Si was on the bed reading, she heard a noise against the window. She looked, and saw someone trying to open the window! But she didn't know who it was, for whoever it was was wearing a raincoat and the window was blurry so it was hard to make out the face. But Kay-Si soon knew who it was when they climbed into the room. It was Vycky-Na! Kay-Si couldn't believe that after everything, Vycky-Na decided to show her face again. "What are you doing here?!" Asked Kay-Si, backing up. "The same thing I'm always doing here. Trying to get what I want." Said Vycky-Na. "Well your sure not going to get it." Said Kay-Si. "Yes I am, all I got to do is kill you and then your husband will leave you for me, when I tell him I'm not like I used to be. But I really am, but he doesn't need to know that." Said Vycky-Na. "Kill me? How are you going to do that?" Kay-Si asked. "What is better than using your bare hands? I'll just choke you to death!" Said Vycky-Na, putting her hands around Kay-Si's neck, and beginning to choke her. Kay-Si tryed to catch some air, but Vycky-Na was pressing too hardly onto her neck. Kay-Si coughed and tryed and tryed again to get the air that she wasn't recieving. Kay-Si heard the door. She was glad that her husband and son were back in. But Vycky-Na didn't like this one bit. "Oh, what is he doing in here?! Now he will rescue you, like he always does! Cant you, yourself, show any guts, rather than getting Steppenwolf to fight for you all the time?" Said Vycky-Na. "Yes, I can!" Said Kay-Si, pushing Vycky-Na down onto the floor. Vycky-Na was surprised that Kay-Si even tryed to fight her. But Kay-Si did. She didn't like what Vycky-Na was doing one bit... after all, who would? "Oh, I'll kill you! Say goodbye to your life, and your family!" Said Vycky-Na. "I wont be saying goodbye to anybody!" Said Kay-Si, then she slapped Vycky-Na right accross the face, which startled her. Vycky-Na tryed to get her hands around Kay-Si's neck again, but Kay-Si kept Vycky-Na from reaching her neck. When Steppenwolf walked in, he realized what was happening. Steppenwolf quickly helped his wife and soon Vycky-Na gave up and headed home. But before she went, she said "I will be back, and I will then have what I want.". "Are you alright?" Steppenwolf asked his wife. "I... think so." Kay-Si replied. Steppenwolf pulled Kay-Si up to her feet and then they went out of the room. Moonwatcher asked what happened, and as usual, his parents told him the whole story. But soon, Kay-Si noticed that Steppenwolf seemed to be pretty upset about something. Finally, one day, she thought she'd ask him about it. "Steppenwolf, I've noticed that you seem... well.. pretty upset about something. What is it?" Kay-Si asked. "Well, alot of things are on my mind right now, that's all." Steppenwolf replied. "Yes, but what's wrong?" Kay-Si asked once more. "It's just that.. there's two things I'm worried about right now, okay?" Said Steppenwolf. "What?" Kay-Si wanted to know. "I'm worried about you, Moonwatcher, and Dylan, AND the island. I cant do two things at once! It's hard for me to." Said Steppenwolf. "But you let Moonwatcher help you guard the island, so you got help." Said Kay-Si. "Yes but then you and Dylan are in here all alone, and I'm afraid something will happen to you, like it almost did there." Said Steppenwolf. Kay-Si decided not to say anything more. She decided not to make Steppenwolf more upset than he already was. Kay-Si then went back to what she was doing. But she started to get pretty worried about Steppenwolf. He's being too hard on himself. Thought Kay-Si. She didn't know what to do! Steppenwolf hardly slept, or ate, for that matter. He was too worried about two things at once, that it was hard for him to concentrate on other things. Kay-Si began to worry more and more about him. Moonwatcher even noticed the change in his father. And, he came to ask his mother about it. "Mother, why is father all upset?" Moonwatcher asked. "He's worrying about so many things, that it gets him upset, honey." Said Kay-Si. "Oh, but why is he worried? He never was before." Said Moonwatcher. "Well, he's worried because of what happened. And now he is worried about me, you, Dylan, and the island. And it puts too much pressure on him." Said Kay-Si. "Oh. Well, why didn't he say anything about it before? We could like, take turns watching over the island and our family." Said Moonwatcher. "Hey, there's an idea. Why dont you suggest it to him?" Said Kay-Si. "Why dont you? Your his wife." Said Moonwatcher. "It was your idea." Said Kay-Si. "Okay, okay! I'll ask him about it later on today." Said Moonwatcher. And before Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher went out for guard duty that evening, Moonwatcher decided to ask his father about what Kay-Si said. "Dad, I've noticed you have been pretty upset lately. Mother told me all about it. And I have an idea, and I would like to suggest it to you. I was thinking we could like, take turns watching over the island and our family." Suggested Moonwatcher. "Hey, I never thought of that before, but... what about you? Do you think you'll be alright?" Asked Steppenwolf. "I'll be fine." Said Moonwatcher. So they started to do this, but Kay-Si could still tell that Steppenwolf was still upset. It seems that it was still putting a lot of pressure on him. Maybe Moonwatcher's suggestion helped out a little, but not enough. Kay-Si began to worry more and more about her husband. He hardly slept or ate anymore. Moonwatcher, too, began to worry about him. Things just weren't getting any better. And someone had to do something about it. That's when Kay-Si decided it was just better off to let Steppenwolf handle this on his own. He's the only one that can solve his own problems. Kay-Si decided. But soon, Kay-Si began to think otherwise. Even if he could deal with his own problems by himself, it didn't hurt to have a little help once in awhile. But Kay-Si wondered, how could she help him? Moonwatcher wanted to help Steppenwolf, also. But like his mother, he couldn't decide how in the world he could help him, either. He decided to add a new entry to his Family Memories book, maybe that would give him a thought or two. An entry: Well, pretty much the same here. My father is still upset about this all. I tryed to help him, but it just didn't work out. I'm trying to think of another way I can help him out... I just dont know how. Well, I guess I will keep you updated on how this all turns out. 'Til next time, Moonwatcher He then re-read it with his pencil, and suddenly he had an idea. He was just going to have to tell his father that everything would be alright, and that this had to work out somehow. He couldn't think of anything else. He talked with his mother first about this, and she agreed that he was right. Both of them, would talk to Steppenwolf about this... for how else could everything work out? They needed to discuss this, is what they have decided. When he came back in, Kay-Si and Moonwatcher looked at each other. Moonwatcher decided he would be the first one to speak. "Uh.. father, we need to talk to you about something." Moonwatcher said calmly. "What?" Steppenwolf wanted to know. "Well... we need to talk to you about what's going on.. about why your upset." Said Moonwatcher, trying to figure out what they were going to say. "Moonwatcher suggested to me that we talk to you about this. We had to do something... you dont eat anymore, and hardly even sleep." Said Kay-Si. "Yeah... we were figuring that this was the only way that we could get things to go right again." Explained Moonwatcher. "Well, can you blame me? It's not too easy when you are worrying about two things at once." Said Steppenwolf. "Yeah, but.. when you worry about us, it makes me worry about you. I dont like to see you like this." Said Kay-Si. "Well, when I'm worrying about all this, it makes me forget about other things, I admit, it does." Said Steppenwolf. "So why dont you stop worrying?" Kay-Si asked. "Because, I just can't help it!" Admitted Steppenwolf. "If you would let us, we can all work this out together." Said Kay-Si. "Please, dad? I dont want to see you upset like this anymore." Said Moonwatcher. And so, they did. They all worked it out together, and decided they would protect each other the best way they knew how. Soon, everything was back to normal, and both Kay-Si and Moonwatcher were glad. THE END (Authors note: Hmmmmm.... is it just me or are my fanfics getting shorter?
