----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tragedy! By: SnowPuppy Continued from the last fanfic I wrote, "In the Life of an Echidna" Moonwatcher was walking into the living room when he suddenly felt something pointing at him. He looked over his shoulder, and there was.. Harold Windflyer?! Believe it or not, the mean "overlander" Harold Windflyer was back. He moved out of the gun's way and Harold Windflyer looked straight at him. "I thought you and guardian Steppenwolf were dead but it looks like you survived the gunshot. But this time you wont, young guardian Moonwatcher." Said Harold Windflyer. "What did you do with my family?!" Moonwatcher wanted to know. "Oh, they're safe... for the time being. Once I'm through with you they will be next." Said Harold. "But why me first?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Because your your parents' offspring." Said Harold. "So? Tray-Si is my parents' offspring, too!" Said Moonwatcher. "Yes, but your the next generation. The future guardian. And I must deal with you first so that there will be no more future guardians! And with no guardians to guard this land, I can take over!" Said Harold evilly. "My dad wont let you get away with this!" Said Moonwatcher. "He wouldn't, thats for sure, if he wasn't in dreamland... I sent your father and the rest of your family snoozing before anyone could act as a hero!" Said Harold happily. "Well, I know that you WONT get away with this! You cant!" Said Moonwatcher. "Oh yes I can. And, if you want me to make it less painful for you, I will put you to sleep like the rest of your family. Then you wont even feel the pain of death when it comes to you! And then your dad will be the next target!" Said Harold with a grin on his face. Harold released some kind of smoke and it surrounded Moonwatcher. "You.. wont.. get away.. with... this..." Said Moonwatcher, suddenly falling into a deep, deep sleep. "This wont hurt one bit, young guardian. Now that your sleeping like a baby death wont even be painful for you." Said Harold, aiming his gun at Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher was now in very deep danger. But it was too late;Harold pulled the trigger. He had shot Moonwatcher. He then walked out, thinking the job was done. Moonwatcher found himself in a place with no ground, no sky, it was just black everywhere. Whats happening? He thought. Am I dead? He then heard a voice, the same exact voice his mother Kay-Si had heard so long ago. (Read the story "Steppenwolf's Girl" for more information on that voice!) No Moonwatcher. You are not dead... atleast, not yet. The voice startled Moonwatcher. "Who are you?! Where are you?! How can you hear my thoughts?!" Moonwatcher shouted out. He then saw an amazing sight before him. He saw, an, an angel! "I'm the angel of thoughts. And I've been watching over your mother Kay-Si for a long time." Said the angel. "Are you my mother's guardian angel?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Something like that." Said the angel. "Why are you here? Or, for a better question, why am I here?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Harold Windflyer has shot you. You must recover from the shot and save your family before they get shot, too! You must rescue them. I know you can." Said the angel. "But how? I'm stuck here!" Said Moonwatcher. "No, you have your own option. You can walk towards the light over there, and head on to the afterlife. Or you can walk back, and save your family, and your life." Said the angel. "There's an option weather you die or live? Well, my dad told me a story about his dad... so then why did his dad choose to die?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Edmund didn't have an option, Moonwatcher." Said the angel. "Then why do I?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Because it's really not time for you to die yet. But you can go ahead and die, if you want to. When Edmund got shot, that was his time to die. So he didn't have an option." Said the angel. "Oh, I see." Said Moonwatcher. "But you must hurry up and make your choice. If your not quick, you will die anyway, weather you like it or not. So you better pick if you want to die or live, and do it quickly. You only have so much time!" Said the angel. "I want to live, angel! I dont want to die. I got so much to live for. And I have to rescue my family, before they join me!" Said Moonwatcher. "As you wish. Just walk back." Said the angel. Then, the angel was gone. Moonwatcher did as the angel said, and walked back. Soon everything disappeared, and he woke up, laying in the living room. Thats when the pain struck him. He had forgotten that he had been shot, and, that getting shot HURTS. The pain was so intense now. But he had to get up, so that he could rescue his family. He sat up slowly, but the pain hurt more. He couldn't stand it! But he HAD to rescue his family before they were all dead! But thats when it hit him. Where was his family? Where would he start looking for them? He didn't know the answers to those questions, but he wasn't going to find out anything by just sitting there. He stood up and slowly walked. There was more pain than before, but he didn't care. He had to rescue his family! He just had to! He held on to the walls and slowly walked out of the house. And there was Harold Windflyer! Right outside their home! He was holding a gun to three sleeping echidnas laying on the ground. "You leave my.. family alone!" Said Moonwatcher, the pain feeling more intense now. "Your alive?! I thought you would be already dead by now! And I think the smart thing to do was just die, but no you had to choose to live and now your feeling more intense pain than ever! And your gonna feel more, because I'm not stopping until I kill you and your whole family!" Said Harold Windflyer. "No! Dont! Please dont! I love them! Please dont harm them! Thats why I came back, for my family! I love them and I'm not leaving them now. And why are you even bothering us? We didn't do anything to you!" Said Moonwatcher. "Maybe not, but I have to kill all of you so that I can take over this island! I dont think your father would let me do so if he were alive, so I've got to kill him, and the rest of your family, too!" Said Harold. "No. Please dont do it! Have mercy, please! Dont kill us! I want to live! And I'm sure my family does, too!" Said Moonwatcher. "Maybe some guys have mercy, but I sure dont! So dont tell me to have it, because I never have! Once I'm done with all of you I will rule this island and all who lives on it!" Said Harold Windflyer. Moonwatcher then noticed something Harold didn't. He saw his father move. It was like he was about ready to wake up. Harold then noticed what Moonwatcher did. "No, he can't wake up now! Not when I've almost reached my goal! Nothing will keep me from victory! I should just shoot him now and get it over with before he does wake up." Said Harold. "No, you can't!" Said Moonwatcher. "Yes I can! And I will!" Said Harold, and he pulled the trigger. But Moonwatcher leapt out from where he was and turned the gun where it hit nothing but a tree. And that noise woke Steppenwolf with a start. Harold Windflyer noticed this right away. "No, you can't live!" Said Harold Windflyer. Steppenwolf noticed Moonwatcher's wound that was caused by gunshot, and knew right away that it was Harold Windflyer's doing. "You will hurt us no more!" He said to Harold Windflyer. "Thats what you think." Said Harold Windflyer. "Get out of here, before I do what I did to your overlander friends that came here not too long ago!" Said Steppenwolf angrily. "Okay, I'll go! But someday, someday, this island will be mine!" Said Harold Windflyer, walking off. Kay-Si was the next to wake up. She opened her eyes and the first thing she noticed was Moonwatcher's wound. "Oh my--! Are you alright?!" She said, getting up. "I'm fine, mom." Moonwatcher replied. "I dont think so. We better get you to a hospital." Said Kay-Si to Moonwatcher. "Really, I'm fine!" Said Moonwatcher. "I think your mother is right. Kay-Si, get Moonwatcher to a hospital." Said Steppenwolf. "But what about you?" Asked Kay-Si. "That Harold guy thinks he's getting away this easily, well he's not. I'm going to track him down. Dont worry about me. Just get Moonwatcher to a hospital." Said Steppenwolf. "Okay." Said Kay-Si, deciding not to argue with her husband. Moonwatcher was then in the hospital and Kay-Si was a little worried about him. "Are you sure your okay? You dont need anything?" She asked him. "I'm fine, mother!" Said Moonwatcher. And he was. His wound was soon healed and he got to get out of the hospital. But their home still wasn't the same, for two reasons;Steppenwolf still hadn't returned home. And baby Tray-Si was killed by the gas that was used to put them to sleep. Her tiny lungs couldn't take it. Kay-Si was devastated about this. Her baby, Tray-Si, was gone. And she didn't even get to be a mother to Tray-Si for very long! She missed her small baby. And so did Moonwatcher. He missed his baby sister, whom he knew nothing about! Kay-Si and Moonwatcher waited and waited for Steppenwolf to return. They both would be very devastated if he turned out to be dead. The death of Tray-Si affected them enough, but to know that Steppenwolf would join her would affect them again! They didn't want their family shortened to only two members. But then Steppenwolf came home! He wasn't dead, which releaved Kay-Si and Moonwatcher. "Oh, I'm so glad that your okay!" Said Kay-Si to Steppenwolf. "I told you I would be." Said Steppenwolf. "What happened to the mean ol' overlander guy?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Lets just say he wont be bothering us anymore." Said Steppenwolf. "Thats good, I just about had enough of him!" Said Moonwatcher. "I think we all have." Said Steppenwolf. "But.. our family will never be the same.. because of, Tray-Si!" Said Moonwatcher with tears in his eyes. "What about Tray-Si?" Asked Steppenwolf. "Well we checked her into the hospital, and it turned out that the gas that put us to sleep killed her!" Said Kay-Si, getting tears in her eyes too. All three of them were pretty devastated about their loss. And Moonwatcher was right, their family was never the same. On a cold Thursday, like any other day, Kay-Si was waiting for Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher to return from guard duty. But she was all alone again;for Tray-Si wasn't there with them anymore. She was in the kitchen peeling potatos when she heard a noise in the living room. Curious as to what it was, she went in there to find out. An angel appeared before her eyes. She walked backwards in shock. "Don't be afraid, Kay-Si. I'm here to help." The angel told her. "Who... who are you?" Kay-Si wanted to know. "I'm an angel.. an angel that watches over you and your family. I'm also the voice that you've heard so long ago that gave you advice." Said the angel to Kay-Si. "Your that voice that I've heard all those times? Well.. you... you saved me before!" Said Kay-Si. "Only because it wasn't time for you to die yet, because you had so much to live for." Said the angel. "Your... your not here to take me with you, are you? I still have much to live for! I dont want to die yet!" Said Kay-Si. "No, I'm not here to take you with me, Kay-Si. I'm only here to warn you." Said the angel. "Warn me? Warn me about what?" Asked Kay-Si. "You must be very careful, Kay-Si. One wrong decision and your life could be up in smoke. The next time you have a fatal accident, you wont survive, Kay-Si, because then it will be the time for you to die. But now, you still have so much to live for! And you must prepare yourself for what lies ahead in the future, or you and your family wont survive." Said the angel. "Yes, I think I get the picture." Said Kay-Si. "You must be brave, Kay-Si. Whatever lies ahead, you must be brave." Said the angel, and it disappeared. "Wait!" Said Kay-Si, but the angel was already gone. Kay-Si stopped in her tracks. "Now what do I do?" She wondered. She wondered what the angel meant, about what lies ahead in the future. The thought frightened her so she just went back to peeling potatos, as if it never happened. Soon, about two weeks later, it was Moonwatcher's fourteenth birthday. He loved birthday parties but he still wished that his baby sister Tray-Si could be there. "I'm sorry about Tray-Si, Moonwatcher." Said Moonwatcher's girlfriend and party guest, Molly-Ca. "That's okay, Molly. I'm sure Trace is in a better place now." Said Moonwatcher, feeling the need to cry, but he didn't. "Hey, Moonwatcher! Sorry about your sister. I wish she could have lived." Said Molly-Ca's sister, Zoey-Ca. "Thats okay, Zoe. Thats, okay." Said Moonwatcher, starting to cry a little. "Oh, sorry I didn't mean to make you sad!" Said Zoey-Ca. "Thats okay.. I was sad to begin with anyway." Said Moonwatcher. "Oh, Moonwatcher I'm sure you will soon get over it. Sorry about your loss, but sooner or later you will get over it." Said a teenage girl(much older than Moonwatcher, by the way.), who called herself Anner. "Thats okay, Jeanie-An." Said Moonwatcher. "Call me Anner! All my friends do." Said Jeanie-An. "I would, if you were my friend." Said Moonwatcher. "Hmph!" Said Jeanie-An, stomping away. "Oh dont mind Jean, she's always a careless snob." Said Molly-Ca to Moonwatcher. "I heard that, Moley!" Said Jeanie-An from accross the room. "Yeah, and it's MOLLY!" Said Molly-Ca. "Whatever." Said Jeanie-An. "Anyway, sorry." Said Molly-Ca. "Yeah, sorry." Said Zoey-Ca. "That's okay. You guys are my best friends. Thanks for your support." Said Moonwatcher. "No problem." Said Zoey-Ca. "Yeah, and Moonwatcher, your suppose to be happy on your birthday, not sad. Just try to think of the good times you had with your baby sister." Said Molly-Ca. "Okay, thanks so much." Said Moonwatcher. As months flew by, Moonwatcher had begun to feel better. But he didn't forget his baby sister, no, he could never do that. He just remembered her by the good times that they shared. Moonwatcher remembered the first day Tray-Si came home from the hospital. ----Flashback---- "Meet your new baby sister, her name is Tray-Si!" Kay-Si had said to Moonwatcher. "Oh, she's so beautiful! Your going to have a great time living here, aren't you, Trace?" Moonwatcher had said to his new baby sister. Tray-Si had giggled at Moonwatcher and stuck out her tounge, which had the whole room up in laughs. "Your silly, Trace! And your my baby sister, and your going to have so much fun in this world you were born in!" Moonwatcher had told his baby sister. And thats when Tray-Si had became attached to her big brother, from the very first day that she had came home. ----End of flashback---- But what Moonwatcher didn't know then was that he wouldn't be seeing his baby sister for long. Then, Moonwatcher had a great idea! He would put together a "Memory Book" that had all the good memories that he and Tray-Si shared. And whenever he felt sad about it he could look at all the wonderful memories they had and feel happy again. When he was finished with his new treasure, he looked at it for awhile, then sat it down on his desk. He then heard his mother calling from the kitchen, telling him that dinner was ready. "Coming, mom!" He said then headed out of his bedroom. He ate his dinner and then he told his parents about the "Memory Book" that he had made. They both thought it was a good idea and Moonwatcher smiled then went back to his room to go to sleep, it had been a long day. It was then that he had woken up in the middle of the night. He thought that he would just get a glass of water, because thats what he usually wanted when he woke up in the middle of the night like that. He walked in the kitchen, which was dark and quiet. His parents had went to sleep a long time ago. He got a glass that he found on the kitchen counter and filled it with water. After he had a drink of water he went back to bed. But it was strange, he just couldn't go back to sleep! Something was keeping him awake. He stared wide-eyed at the ceiling for a moment, and he could've sworn he saw something move on the ceiling, but he didn't think nothing of it, for he knew it was just his eyes playing tricks on him in the dark. After awhile he got upset because he couldn't go back to sleep. He decided to check what time it was. It was 3:51AM! His father would soon get up for guard duty, and Moonwatcher had to, too! But he didn't want to get up for guard duty now, he didn't get enough sleep! He was still very tired. He rubbed his eyes and wished he could go back to sleep. Finally, he did. Until Steppenwolf came in his room and woke him up for guard duty. Moonwatcher was upset and still wondering why he couldn't go back to sleep when he tryed to! He sighed and got up anyway, even if he was tired. His father noticed him opening and closing his eyes over and over again. "Did you get enough sleep?" He asked Moonwatcher. "Hardly any. I dont know why, though. I tryed to go to sleep, but I couldn't. And I have no clue why." Said Moonwatcher honestly. "Well, you better get back to bed. You need your sleep." Said Steppenwolf to Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher tryed to go back to sleep, but he couldn't! It was happening again! Even though he was very tired, he couldn't go back to sleep. He just couldn't! He had no idea why. He asked his mother about it, and she said that he should visit a doctor. Maybe the doctor would know what was wrong with him. Soon, the doctor had the results. "Your son is sick. He has a disease that is unknown to me. It seems that this disease won't let him sleep, but not just that." Said the doctor. "What else?" Kay-Si asked, concerned. "It wont let him eat, either. If he eats anything he'll just puke it. It seems he's got an irritation. We've never came in contact with this disease before. It's a new disease, and we have just discovered it in your son today. We shall call it irrititis. It seems your son is the first victom of this "irrititis"." Said the doctor. "Oh no! How will he eat?" Kay-Si started to panic. "We will have to feed him through his veins, Mrs.Echidna. We'll keep him here until his irrititis is gone. It's the only way he will survive. But you will have to pay extra, ma'am." Said the doctor. "Okay, if it's the only way. My husband is the guardian, and I'm sure he'll take care of that." Said Kay-Si. "Wonderful! Your son will be kept here until the irrititis is gone. It's a newly discovered disease so we know not much about it, but we will do all that we can." Said the doctor. "Thank you, sir." Said Kay-Si. "My pleasure, ma'am." Said the doctor. Kay-Si went in to see Moonwatcher. "Are you alright, honey?" She asked him. "I'm fine.. except I'm hungry and sleepy." Said Moonwatcher with a yawn. "The doctor will take care of that. He said they would feed you through your veins and put you to sleep with some of that gas that puts you to sleep." Said Kay-Si. "But I dont like it! I like it better when I could live my life like everybody else, instead of cooped up in a medical place!" Said Moonwatcher. "I know, sweety, but this is the only way you can survive. You will have to stay here until your irrititis is gone. Then you can come home again. You'll be okay. You'll be home and living a normal life again before you know it." Said Kay-Si to Moonwatcher. "Yeah... but that might take forever!" Said Moonwatcher. "Mrs.Echidna! Mrs.Echidna!" Said the doctor, coming in the room. "What is it? And please, call me Kay-Si." Said Kay-Si. "As you wish. Well, it's time for Moonwatcher's nap. We have a schedule so that we will have the times when he eats and sleeps. And this is his sleeping time!" Said the doctor. "Yes, Doctor Erik." Said Kay-Si. Soon, Moonwatcher was sleeping like a baby because of the gas. "Ma'am.." Said the doctor, Doctor Erik. "What is it?" Asked Kay-Si. "If you want all this for a much lower price, I know a way, and I will lower the price for you." Said Doctor Erik. "Okay, what is it?" Asked Kay-Si. "I will price this all lower, for a much more affordable price, if you give me a kiss! It's as simple as that, and bingo, the price will be lowered." Said Doctor Erik. "What?! No way! I'm already married!" Said Kay-Si. "Well think of how happy your husband would be if this was all for a cheap price. All you have to do is give me a kiss, and everything will be cheaper." Said Doctor Erik. "No! I told you.. I'm already married! I'm not giving you a kiss!" Said Kay-Si. "Dont you want a cheaper price?" Said Doctor Erik. "I dont care if you made me a millionaire! I'm not kissing you!" Said Kay-Si. "Fine. Have it your way. But some day I will get a kiss out of you;some day!" Said Doctor Erik. "Yeah, some day in your DREAMS." Said Kay-Si. Moonwatcher was kept there for as long as he had his "irrititis". Kay-Si and Steppenwolf came to visit Moonwatcher almost every day. The doctor told them that their son was getting better but still not well enough to leave the medical place. Moonwatcher wished he wasn't here. Everything bad was happening;first his younger sister died. Then he got this "irrititis" and had to live in a medical place for who knows how long! You could say that this all was a "Tragedy". Moonwatcher just wished his life would end then and there, because things sure weren't getting any better. I wish I were home, and I wish my sister was there. But I'm not home, and neither is my sister. My life will never be the same. Even if I do get better and get to return home, my sister still won't be there. No one can fix that problem. I wish I would just die, because I'm sure not getting anywhere by suffering. Thought Moonwatcher. Then he went to sleep. He thought there was nothing else he could do. When he woke up, it was time for him to get fed. He sighed and wished this nightmare was over. Weeks after weeks went by, and Moonwatcher showed improvement. But he still couldn't go out of the medical place, so it wasn't really an improvement to him. His fifteenth birthday was coming, and he wished he were out of this medical place. Celebrating a birthday in a place like this wasn't at all going to be fun. This is going to be the worst birthday party of all time! Thought Moonwatcher, knowing that his birthday was tomorrow. Then, his mother came in. "Whats wrong, Moonwatcher?" Said Kay-Si, noticing that there was something bothering her son. "Everything, mom! Tomorrow's my birthday and it's not going to be a good birthday because it will be celebrated in a medical place! I can't believe it! I'm going to have the worst birthday party ever. I know I am! That and everything else! Spending your life in a place like this isn't at all fun!" Said Moonwatcher upsettingly. "Moonwatcher, your not staying here forever. And even if having a good birthday party seems hopeless, you never know... it might be the best one you ever had." Said Kay-Si. "Well it sure seems like I'm staying here forever! And I dont think my birthday party will be even fun, mom. Dont try to cheer me up, because it's not going to work!" Said Moonwatcher. "Sweety, I'm telling you this because you never know. It might be a fun and exciting birthday party, and then it could be a boring and lame birthday party. But you'll never know until it's here." Said Kay-Si. "The second one is most likely." Said Moonwatcher. "Oh, Moonwatcher! We'll see." Said Kay-Si. Then she walked out of the room, without saying another word. THE END To be continued in the next fanfic, "Life Isn't Always Easy". ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
