Memories

(Note from author: This is a special Christmas fanfic! I hope you enjoy
it.)
Moonwatcher was looking through an old family photo album. He saw
pictures of
himself, his parents, his brother Dylan, and Lyssa-Ra, his late wife.
Tears streamed down his cheeks and on to the picture. He remembered her
so
well.
He then put the album up, and got in bed. He was awfully tired. That
night he
had a dream;a dream about Lyssa-Ra.
"Moonwatcher..." Said Lyssa-Ra.
"Lyssy!" Said a startled Moonwatcher.
"I came to tell you... you have no reason to be sad, Moonwatcher. I'm
now in
a much better place. You must go on with your life. I will love you
forever."
Lyssa-Ra told him.
And that's when Moonwatcher woke up. He looked all around, but she was
no
where to be seen.
In the morning, he went in the living room and saw a surprise.
There, in the middle of the living room, was a Christmas tree.
With all this stuff on his mind, he forgot that Christmas was near.
Right now
it was December 16th, and only nine more days until Christmas. It was
about
time they got a Christmas tree!
But Moonwatcher only wished that his beloved wife Lyssa-Ra could be
there to
share their traditional Christmas celebration with them.
But he remembered that dream he had. Maybe Lyssa-Ra just wanted him to
have
fun once in awhile. But it was so hard for him to, knowing his wife
would
never be able to share the fun with him.
Moonwatcher's mother Kay-Si then came into the room.
"Honey, I know your still upset about Lyssa's death," Kay-Si told him,
"but I
want you to have a good Christmas this year."
"Oh mom, I'd love to! I really would. But it's so hard!" Moonwatcher
said
upsettingly.
"I know, sweetheart, but I think Lyssa-Ra would like you to have a good
Christmas rather than being sad the rest of your life. You'll see her
again
someday." Kay-Si told her son.
"Okay... I'll try to have a good Christmas, I'll try." Moonwatcher said
to
his mother.
"Good, I hope you do." Said Kay-Si, giving her son a hug.
Kay-Si headed for the kitchen.
"Now what are you going to do?" Moonwatcher asked his mom.
"I'm just going to go over my Christmas list, honey," Kay-Si replied.
"I want
this to be a good Christmas for everyone."
"Mommy! Mommy!" Said young Dylan, bounding into the room.
"What is it now, sweety?" Kay-Si asked him.
"Can I help decorate the tree, please? Huh? Can I?!" Dylan asked his
mother
excitedly.
"Only if you dont break anything like you did last year." Kay-Si told
her
young son.
"I wont! Thanks, mom!" Said Dylan, running into the living room where
he saw
his older brother in tears. "What's wrong, Moonwatcher?"
"I was just thinking about Lyssa-Ra." Moonwatcher replied.
"Oh. Umm... do you want to help decorate the tree with me?" Asked Dylan
politely.
"Maybe later." Replied Moonwatcher.
"Oh come on, Moonwatcher! You've always loved decorating the tree."
Kay-Si
said, coming back into the room.
"I just dont feel like it this year." Moonwatcher told his mom.
"Moonwatcher, try to calm down. Please, for Lyssa-Ra. You know she
wouldn't
like it if she saw you sitting here in tears every day and night."
Kay-Si
told her son.
"I guess your right," Moonwatcher replied, "but I'm only doing it for
Lyssy."
Moonwatcher then helped his little brother decorate the Christmas tree.
Kay-Si smiled at them and went back into the kitchen.
Kay-Si then heard a crash in the living room. She went back in there
and saw
that her youngest son had broken a bulb.
"Sorry, mom. It just slipped out of my hand." Dylan said honestly.
And right then Steppenwolf came into the room and noticed the broken
bulb,
his mischievous young son, and his exhausted wife staring right at the
bulb.
Immediately he got the picture.
"I see Dylan has broke another bulb this year." He said, carefully
picking up
the broken pieces and putting them in the trash can.
"Yeah, as always." Said Kay-Si with a sigh.
"You need some rest." Steppenwolf told his wife.
"No, I'm alright." Said Kay-Si, collapsing onto the couch.
"I'd say your far from that," Steppenwolf said to Kay-Si. "Get some
rest."
Kay-Si nodded.
And the exhausting day went on. They were all preparing things for the
Christmas holiday that they barely had time for anything else.
And thats when the first snowfall of the year came to the floating
island.
Dylan happily looked out the window.
"Wow! I think we're gonna have a white Christmas." He said happily.
"I'd say your right." Said Kay-Si, walking over to the window.
"Well, this is a nice surprise. We hardly ever get snow here on the
island."
Steppenwolf said.
"Yeah, it's kinda nice," Moonwatcher said. "Lyssa-Ra always loved the
snow.
She loved skiing more than anything."
They all looked at him. They all very well knew that everything that
went on
Moonwatcher tryed to find a connection between it and Lyssa-Ra. It was
like
that for the past few days.
The coldness even got inside the house. They all started wearing
sweatshirts,
coats, or just covering themselves up with a blanket while Kay-Si got
hot
chocolate for them all.
It was now December 20th, with only five more days left 'til Christmas.
They
all got everything ready, espicially Kay-Si. She decorated the place
with all
kinds of decorations, and there was already more than five presents
under the
tree.
Kay-Si was standing on a chair hanging up a Christmas decoration when
she
heard the door. She put the decoration down and got off the chair, and
went
to go answer the door.
"Susan! But... it hasn't been two months yet." Kay-Si said confusingly.
"I know, but I just HAD to spend the Christmas holiday with you!" Susan
told
her cousin.
"Oh, well in THAT case, come on in." Joked Kay-Si.
Susan walked in the decorated house and looked all around.
"Whoa! It sure looks like you've been busy." Said Susan, noticing all
the
changes.
"Yep. Busy decorating the house for Christmas. I was just hanging up a
decoration when you stopped by." Said Kay-Si.
"Oh, can I help?" Asked Susan.
"Yes, you owe me anyway." Teased Kay-Si.
So Susan helped Kay-Si with the decorations. When Moonwatcher and
Steppenwolf
came back in from guard duty, they looked at the two echidnas, Susan
and
Kay-Si, hard at work.
"Susan, your here early." Steppenwolf said.
"Yeah, it hasn't been two months yet." Moonwatcher pointed out.
"Well, I thought I'd spend the Christmas holiday with all of ya." Susan
told
them.
"Oh, I see." Said Steppenwolf.
"Yeah, there's only five more days until Christmas. If I didn't get
here now,
I'd miss your "traditional celebration", and since I've never been here
at
Christmas time before, I thought I would this time." Explained Susan.
"Well, you know your welcome here anytime." Steppenwolf told Susan.
"Thanks." Said Susan.
The rest of the day was pretty much the same. At nighttime, both Kay-Si
and
Susan were pretty exhuasted, so they went to bed early. Hanging up
decorations all day sure can take a lot out of ya.
But Moonwatcher got up in the middle of the night and went into the
living
room, which was now quiet and dark. He took the family photo album off
of the
shelf and looked at all the pictures of Lyssa-Ra. He felt tears
threatening,
but this time he didn't give in to them. This time he just looked at
the
pictures of his late wife, and smiled.
"Moonwatcher?" Said Dylan, coming into the room.
"Dylan! What are you doing up at this time?" Moonwatcher asked his
brother.
"I was just going to sneak into the Christmas presents," said Dylan
honestly,
"your not going to tell mom and dad, are you?"
"No, I'll let you get away with it this time." Said Moonwatcher with a
smirk
on his face.
"Thanks! Your the best big brother ever!" Said Dylan happily, running
over to
the Christmas presents.
"But no opening the presents or wripping the paper. Mom always checks
that
out, you know." Moonwatcher warned his brother.
"Yeah, I know. She inspects the Christmas presents to make sure no one
has
been sneaking in here. Dont worry, I wont." Said Dylan.
"Okay because our dad is Inspector Gadget, while our mom is the wife of
Inspector Gadget." Moonwatcher joked.
"Yeah!! Righty-o!" Dylan said with a giggle.
Moonwatcher smiled at his younger brother and continued looking through
the
family photo album. He smiled at all the wonderful memories that were
there.
When he got up in the morning, he looked out the window and saw...
Lyssa-Ra?!
It looked like Lyssa-Ra... it looked like her walking accross the snow,
like
a beautiful white angel.
He got up from bed and quickly ran out of the house. But when he went
outside, he saw no sign of what he saw before.
"Sweetheart, what are you doing?" Kay-Si asked, walking over to her
son.
"I saw Lyssa-Ra out here! Right outside my window. But she's gone!"
Said
Moonwatcher disappointingly.
"You must of been dreaming, honey. Come on, lets go inside. You must be
freezing." Said Kay-Si to the disappointed Moonwatcher.
"Okay." Said Moonwatcher with a sigh.
A few minutes after they got inside, they heard a knock at the door.
Moonwatcher went to go answer it.
But who he saw, SHOCKED him.
"Lyssa-Ra...?!" He asked, shocked.
"Lyssa-Ra? Oh no. My name is Amanda-Ra. The reason why you thought I
was
Lyssa-Ra, is because I'm her twin sister." Said the echidna who looked
like
Lyssa-Ra.
"I didn't know Lyssa-Ra had a twin sister." Said Moonwatcher
confusingly.
"Yep." Said Amanda-Ra.
"Come in." Said Moonwatcher, greeting Amanda-Ra in.
Kay-Si screamed at the sight of Amanda-Ra.
"No, I'm not Lyssa-Ra. I'm her twin sister. I get a lot of that." Said
Amanda-Ra with a sigh.
"Oh, um, hello." Said Kay-Si, still shaking.
"So that was YOU I saw out my window!" Exclaimed Moonwatcher.
"Yep, that was me." Amanda-Ra admitted.
"Wow, you sure fooled me. You look a lot like, your late sister."
Moonwatcher
said in a shaky voice.
"Yeah... I, I loved her with all my heart. She was the only sibling I
ever
had." Amanda-Ra told Moonwatcher.
"Yeah, I miss her, too." Moonwatcher said to Amanda-Ra.
"Yeah, you were her husband, she told me that you were... and she
showed me a
lot of pictures of you, and she told me where you lived... and so I
felt that
now was the right time to pay you a visit." Amanda-Ra told Moonwatcher.
"I see. Well, we were just getting ready for Christmas, and we got out
all
the old family photo albums, and I saw Lyssa-Ra's picture. And it made
me
think about her, and grieve over her death again." Moonwatcher
admitted.
"I think she would like it if you put her death behind you." Amanda-Ra
said
to Moonwatcher.
"Yeah, thats what my mother suggested to me. And I think I am going to
take
her advice this time. But it was good thinking about the happy times we
had
together." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yeah, think of the happy times. Not the sad times." Said Amanda-Ra.
"I will do that now." Moonwatcher agreed.
As days passed, soon it was Christmas Eve. They all got to open one
present
early, it was a tradition. So they all picked one present to open
early.
Dylan wanted to open more than one present, but his mother told him
"no, only
one.".
The present Moonwatcher opened, was a coat that had his name written on
it.
And also, there was something else written on it, too.
Moonwatcher looked real close and saw that it said, "Love Always,
Lyssa-Ra".
"But how...?" Moonwatcher asked in confusement.
"A long time ago, when Lyssa-Ra was still alive, she told me to give
this to
you if something ever happened to her. And I thought that now was the
right
time." Kay-Si explained.
"Oh, I see now." Moonwatcher said.
"Look in the pocket, she left a note for you." Kay-Si told her son.
Moonwatcher nodded and reached his hand into the pocket and pulled out
a
folded piece of paper.
He unfolded it and looked at Lyssa-Ra's writing. He never knew if he
would
have ever seen it again. Then he read what was written on the paper:
Dear Moonwatcher,
I'm sorry that I have to leave you now. But remember, that I will
always be
with you. I will always love you, and never forget you. This is my last
present to you. I hope you like it... I picked it espicially for you.
Please
remember me by the happy times that we've shared together. I want to
see you
happy. I must leave you now, though I'm not really leaving you at
all... we
are really still together.
Love always,
Lyssy
Moonwatcher then cryed one last time, but it would be the last time
that he
cryed for that reason. He folded the paper back up and held it close to
his
heart. He would treasure this piece of paper always;for it was the last
thing
that Lyssa-Ra had written to him. He put it neatly into his drawer and
thought for a moment. Then, without thinking anything more, he got into
bed,
he was very tired.
In the morning when he awoke, he knew it was Christmas day. He got out
of bed
and went into the kitchen where his mother was baking Christmas cookies
for
their traditional Christmas party.
"Mommy! Can we open the presents yet?" Asked Dylan, coming into the
kitchen.
"No, sweety. Not now. You'll have to wait." Kay-Si told him.
"Awww...!" Dylan said, disappointed.
Kay-Si laughed at her youngest son and gave him a Christmas cookie that
was
already done and cooled.
Dylan happily took the cookie and went into the living room to eat it.
"How about you, Moonwatcher? Do you want a cookie, too?" Kay-Si asked
him.
"Maybe just one." Moonwatcher said, taking a cookie.
"Some things just never change." Kay-Si said to herself.
Moonwatcher went into the living room and sat down by his younger
brother who
was staring at the Christmas presents while eating his cookie.
After Kay-Si was done baking the cookies, she went into the living room
and
put on Christmas music. The first song that played was "Jingle Bells".
And thats when Susan came into the room and the first thing she noticed
were
the cookies in the kitchen. She took one and joined Kay-Si,
Moonwatcher, and
Dylan.
Thats when they heard the door. Steppenwolf was finally back in. He
went into
the living room and joined his family.
Dylan looked around and noticed that everybody was there.
"NOW can we open the presents?" He asked hopefully.
"I guess so." Kay-Si agreed.
"Yippee!" Dylan said happily, running over to the Christmas tree and
taking
any present with his name on it.
And then everybody took all the presents from under the tree with their
name,
and began opening them. Kay-Si noticed that one of the presents were
wripped.
"Okay, who's been sneaking in here at night?" She asked.
"Not me, I didn't wrip the present when I was---ooops." Dylan said.
"Okay, then who was it, then?" Kay-Si asked.
"Not me, I was too busy thinking about Lyssa-Ra." Moonwatcher said.
"Well I certainly didn't do it, I was going to but I didn't." Susan
said.
Kay-Si's eyes fell upon her husband whom wasn't saying anything. Then
he
decided to say something.
"What is it?" Steppenwolf asked.
Kay-Si then bursted up laughing. They all did.
After that they all had some more cookies, and some "Christmas punch".
And
then they all danced and listened to some more Christmas songs. They
had a
wonderful night. When it was over, they were all pretty exhausted, so
they
went to bed early.
THE END
