Living on the Floating Island
By: SnowPuppy
After all that happened(read the last story, "Going Through Life", for
more
information!), the Echidna family was soon back to normal. But who
knows when
another adventure would meet up with them. Kay-Si was doing the dishes,
as
usual, and minding her own business. Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher were
out for
their guard duty, as usual. So everything was normal;for now.
Then it started to rain out. Kay-Si started to get worried(as usual)
about
her husband and child. She was relieved when she heard the door and the
two
came in, all dripping and wet.
"Hey, you two better dry off before you get a cold." Said Kay-Si, soon
noticing the dripping wet Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher.
"I think I'm already getting a cold." Said Moonwatcher with a cough.
"Well, just dry off before it gets worse, then." Said Kay-Si with a
sigh.
"Okay, but I dont see what the big deal is, it's just a cold." Said
Moonwatcher.
Kay-Si looked at him upsettingly.
"Okay, okay! I'll get a towel." Said Moonwatcher, running off towards
the
bathroom.
Steppenwolf followed him and Kay-Si went back to doing the dishes. When
she
was finished, she went to go to sleep, she was really tired, because
this has
been one exhausting day for her.
But a sound woke her up. Steppenwolf was coming into the room.
"So, you went to bed early?" Steppenwolf asked her.
"Yes, I did." Said Kay-Si exhaustingly.
"Sorry, did I wake you up?" Steppenwolf asked her.
"Yes, but that's okay." Kay-Si replied.
"Well, I'll be back in awhile." Steppenwolf told her.
He gave her a kiss and then walked out of the room. After that, Kay-Si
soon
fell fast asleep, but only to be woken up again, but this time by her
son.
"Mom, can I stay up until midnight?" Moonwatcher asked her.
"You came in here to ask me that?" Kay-Si asked upsettingly.
"Well, yeah. I need to find out if I'm one of the finalists in this
contest
and they announce them at midnight." Moonwatcher told her.
"Sweetheart, hardly anybody has a chance in those contests." Said
Kay-Si.
"Yeah, but if I am a finalist I gotta know!" Said Moonwatcher.
"Okay, whatever." Said Kay-Si.
"Did I wake you up?" Moonwatcher asked his mom.
"Yes, you did." Replied Kay-Si.
"Sorry. Well, thanks." Said Moonwatcher, walking out of the room.
Kay-Si sighed and went back to sleep.
But the bounciness of the bed at 9:00PM woke her up again. Steppenwolf
had
just got in bed and thats what made the bed bounce. Kay-Si turned over
and
tryed to get back to sleep.
She was woken up soon again, at 4:00AM, by her son Moonwatcher.
Steppenwolf
and Moonwatcher had just got up to go out for guard duty, and they both
were
suppose to go out silently so they wouldn't wake Kay-Si. But
Moonwatcher had
forgotten about this, and he had woke his mother up.
"I'm a finalist! I'm a finalist!" Moonwatcher shouted happily.
"Moonwatcher! Shhhh, you'll wake up your mother!" Steppenwolf told his
noisy
son.
"Ooops. I'll try to be quieter." Whispered Moonwatcher.
"Well, you better. You know your mother doesn't like to be woken up
this
early." Said Steppenwolf.
"Okay. I know. I hope I didn't wake her up." Said Moonwatcher.
But Moonwatcher DID wake her up. She was trying to get back to sleep,
but she
just couldn't. She was having a very difficult night.
Finally, her body agreed to go back to sleep. When she woke up, it was
8:00AM, and she got up, and sighed as it was time to start another
long,
exhausting day.
But then, she heard a knock at the door. Who could that be... and at
this
time? Who would come over this early in the day? She wondered.
When she opened the door, she gasped at who she saw.
It was Vycky-Na! The yellow, female echidna who was always trying to
take
Kay-Si's husband away from her(Read the story "With the Good Comes the
Bad"
for more information on Vycky-Na!).
She quickly shut the door on Vycky-Na.
But Vycky-Na opened it back up.
"Why'd you do that for, soon-to-be former Mrs.Steppenwolf Echidna?"
Asked
Vycky-Na.
"Former? Me and Steppenwolf are still married!" Kay-Si shouted at her.
"Yes, your still married.. FOR NOW. Soon you will be the former
Mrs.Echidna!
Once I'm done with you, you will. Face it, Steppenwolf is going to be
all
mine." Said Vycky-Na.
"What do you mean?!" Kay-Si wanted to know.
"Well, since you wont be here for long, I guess I can share my plan
with you.
My plan, is as good as gold. I will tell Steppenwolf that I've
changed... I
will tell him that I'm not the "bad little echidna" I once was. Then we
will
be married and you will be history." Said Vycky-Na evilly.
"Wait a second... how can you marry him if he's still married to me?!"
Kay-Si
snapped at him.
"That's easy. I'll just do away with you." Said Vycky-Na.
"Do away with me? What do you mean?!" Kay-Si asked Vycky-Na angrily.
"As in... no longer here... as in... you wont be on this planet
anymore... as
in, DEAD." Said Vycky-Na evilly.
"Your... your going to kill me?!" Kay-Si asked, shocked.
"You've got that right! And, I'm going to kill you, right this second,
so it
will be over with, and so you wont tell Steppenwolf what I have in
store for
you. If you do, then he will protect you and I wont be able to kill
you! So I
will just have to do it now, and get it over with." Said Vycky-Na with
a grin
accross her face.
"No, your not going to do that! I have to stay here.. with my family.
They
need me!" Said Kay-Si helplessly.
"Face it, no one needs you! I will be your husband's new wife, and I
will be
Moonwatcher's new mom, and you wont be able to watch your son grow up,
will
you? No, I will! Do you have any last words before I "do away with
you"?"
Vycky-Na said.
Vycky-Na then pulled a knife out of her purse. Kay-Si backed away.
"No, I wont let you kill me. Please dont." Said Kay-Si, looking at the
sharp,
silver object in Vycky-Na's hand.
"Oh, put a lid on it!" Said Vycky-Na, trying to stab Kay-Si. But
luckily,
Kay-Si moved out of the way just in time.
Kay-Si was out of breath. She didn't know how much more of this she
could
take. One wrong move and her life would be taken away.
But Vycky-Na had trapped Kay-Si in a corner. She was holding up the
knife.
Kay-Si shook her head and put her hands in front of her, trying to keep
the
knife from stabbing her chest.
"You think that little defense will work? Oh, come on!" Said Vycky-Na,
then
she swung the knife forward. Luckily, it didn't hit Kay-Si's chest, but
instead it hit one of Kay-Si's hands. Blood was now pouring from the
palm of
her hand.
"See, now you know I mean business. Next time it will hit your chest,
instead
of your hand." Said Vycky-Na.
"Well, I'd rather have a cut in my hand than die!" Shouted Kay-Si.
"Kay-Si!!" Shouted Steppenwolf, coming into the room.
"Oh drat, the guardian's in!" Vycky-Na whispered to herself.
"What are you doing to her?!" Steppenwolf asked.
"Oh, I better gets this over with before the guardian interferes!" Said
Vycky-Na, holding up the knife, and starting to swing it forward.
"No!" Said Steppenwolf, running forward in front of Kay-Si.
Instead of hitting Kay-Si, the knife hit Steppenwolf. He fell to the
floor,
bleeding terribly.
"Steppenwolf!" Kay-Si shouted, leaning over him.
"How could you, Vycky-Na?! How could you!" Said Kay-Si upsettingly.
"No, I stabbed the wrong person! I murdered Steppenwolf! I murdered the
guardian!" Said Vycky-Na, crying now, then she ran out of the house.
Then Moonwatcher came in. He ran over to his dad.
"What happened?!" He shouted.
"Vycky-Na was in here.. she was trying to kill me, but instead..."
Kay-Si
said through her sobs.
"I get the picture. Mom, we gotta get him to the hospital, and fast!
He's
losing blood quickly! I dont want dad to die!" Said Moonwatcher sadly.
"Neither do I. Moonwatcher, call the hospital." Said Kay-Si, starting
to sob
more harder.
Moonwatcher nodded his head and ran to the phone. When they got there
they
gasped at what they saw before them.
"Oh my--! The guardian! And I assume you must be Mrs.Echidna. I'm..
Mimi-Li."
Said nurse Mimi-Li.
"He has no pulse." Said one of them.
Kay-Si looked down at her husband in fear. She could still remember
that
horrible picture in her mind;Vycky-Na swinging the knife forward, then
the
knife hitting Steppenwolf's chest, causing him to fall to the floor,
unconscious. It's all my fault this happened! I should've pushed
Steppenwolf
out of the way, I should have! It's all my fault! Kay-Si thought.
Kay-Si watched him being put upon a stretcher. She couldn't believe
this was
happening. That should be me laying there. She thought.
Then she noticed the dropped knife on the ground, Vycky-Na must of
dropped
it. She picked it up. Moonwatcher noticed this.
"No, mom! Dont do it!" Said Moonwatcher, taking the knife out of his
mother's
hand.
"Why not? I feel so awful already." Said Kay-Si upsettingly.
"Yes but what if dad's alright? If he lives through this, I want you to
be
here, too! I want both of my parents!" Said Moonwatcher.
Kay-Si then gave her son a hug. She cryed more, and hoped with all her
heart
and soul that Steppenwolf would be okay.
When Steppenwolf was at the hospital, he had a faint heartbeat. The
medics
figured that the knife had cut into his heart, but if it had wouldn't
his
heart have stopped completly? It was still beating, and everyone knew
that
something was keeping Steppenwolf's heart from stopping.
Kay-Si went over by her husband's side, and looked at him. She hoped
that he
would be alright. She put her hands on his chest, and started to cry
more.
Kay-Si then felt Steppenwolf's chest go up. He was breathing again! She
smiled, and hoped that this meant he was going to be okay after all.
When he opened his eyes, Kay-Si's heart was filled with joy. He was
alright!
"Kay-Si?" He said weakly.
Kay-Si put her hands on his, then looked up at him.
"Your alright!" She said happily.
"Yes, I'm.. fine." Said Steppenwolf.
"Dad? Dad!" Said Moonwatcher running over to his father.
"Your my family.. and your what kept me alive." Steppenwolf told his
wife and
son.
"Well, I'm just glad your okay." Said Kay-Si.
Steppenwolf got to go home sooner than expected, and Kay-Si was happy
that
her husband was still with her. That certainly was a close call.
And soon, Steppenwolf and Kay-Si had their anniversary in February.
Steppenwolf took Kay-Si to the usual places, but she didn't mind. She
loved
it. Moonwatcher even got his parents a present.
He got them what he called a "Chain String". There was two of them, and
when
you put them together it shows a picture of a heart and the words
"Happy
Anniversary". His parents both thanked him for this gift.
"Well, hey, I wanted to get you two a present, since I hardly ever do."
Said
Moonwatcher.
"That was very sweet of you, Moonwatcher." Said Kay-Si.
"I know of something that's even sweeter." Said Steppenwolf.
"Which is?" Asked Kay-Si.
"This." Said Steppenwolf, starting to kiss Kay-Si.
Moonwatcher smiled at his parents and went in his room. He got out his
"Family Memories" book and wrote about the day.
And, what he wrote was this:
New entry:
Hey! Well, today is my parents' anniversary! And so far, they are
having a
terrific time. Right now they are currently kissing in the living room,
and I
know that they love each other very much! Well, that's all for now!
Until next time,
Moonwatcher
Then he closed it and decided to go to bed early. Since it was his
parents'
anniversary, both him and Steppenwolf took the day off from guard duty.
He
got in bed and closed his eyes, and was soon sound asleep.
When he got up in the morning, he sighed, as he knew today he wouldn't
be
getting the day off.
He went in the kitchen and noticed his mother sitting down at the
table.
"Mom, what are you doing up? You dont usually get up at 4:00AM." Said
Moonwatcher.
"I couldn't sleep for some reason." Replied Kay-Si.
"Oh. Anything wrong?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"No, everythings fine." Kay-Si replied.
"Well, okay." Said Moonwatcher.
"Kay-Si, I know something's bothering you." Said Steppenwolf, coming
into the
kitchen.
"No really, I'm fine." Said Kay-Si.
But Steppenwolf certainly knew better. He knew something was bothering
his
wife. But he decided not to question her about it anymore;she definatly
wasn't in the mood to talk about it right now.
Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher then went out for guard duty. Kay-Si pretty
much
moped around the rest of the day. Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher could
sense
that something was bothering her.
She hardly even smiled the whole day. Moonwatcher decided to question
her
about it again.
"Mom, what's wrong? It's not too hard to figure out that something's
bothering you." Said Moonwatcher.
"I'm alright, I just dont feel like myself today." Kay-Si replied.
"Come on, mom! You were all happy yesterday, and now suddenly your
upset!
What is it?" Moonwatcher asked her again.
"Moonwatcher, I dont think your mother is in the mood to talk right
now."
Said Steppenwolf.
"She hasn't been in the mood for a long time now!" Said Moonwatcher.
"Yeah.. well, just give her some time." Said Steppenwolf.
Moonwatcher wanted to question his mother about it again, but he knew
his
father was right. He just really wanted to know what was bothering his
mother.
Then both Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher went in the living room to talk
about
it.
"But father, mother has been moping around all day! I know something is
bothering her." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, something is definatly bothering her, but now is not the time to
be
discussing it with her!" Said Steppenwolf.
"But father, we cant help her if she wont tell us." Said Moonwatcher.
"She'll tell us when she's ready, son. Dont make this harder for her."
Said
Steppenwolf.
"But..." Moonwatcher started.
"No buts. You have to give her time, or she'll never tell us." Said
Steppenwolf.
"Yeah... I guess your right." Said Moonwatcher.
Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher then went back into the kitchen and ate
dinner
before going back out for guard duty. Nothing much changed, though.
Kay-Si
was still moping around, for some reason. And her husband and son were
trying
to figure out what was bothering her.
But so far, no luck. Then, Steppenwolf decided that if she didn't tell
them
by 9:00PM, he would question her about it, one more time.
And it turned out that she didn't tell them. She was silent most of the
day,
and Steppenwolf decided that he would have to question her about it.
Before they went to bed, Steppenwolf asked her.
"Kay-Si, I know something is bothering you. I can sense it. Your not
yourself. What is it, what's bothering you?" Steppenwolf asked her.
"Well, if you really want to know..." Kay-Si said.
"I do." Said Steppenwolf.
So, what IS bothering Kay-Si, you ask? Stay tuned for the answers!
