Life Isn't Always Easy
By:SnowPuppy
When Moonwatcher woke up he was surprised at what he saw, he saw
something he
 thought he never would.
Balloons and streamers were everywhere in the room. There was a table
next to
him, with presents on it. And then there was another table with a cake
on it.
And above the closed door was a big banner that said "Happy Birthday
Moonwatcher" on it.
He heard people talking outside the closed door. He was very curious as
to
who it was and what they were talking about.
Oh, it's probably just the doctor talking with someone coming to see a
patient. Thought Moonwatcher. But there was alot of talking, so he
began to
think that it wasn't.
And he REALLY wanted to know what was going on out there! He slowly got
up
and opened the door. Everybody stared at him.
"Your awake... uh, surprise!" Said Kay-Si out of the crowd.
"Wow... I never would have imagined...!" Said Moonwatcher, noticing
that
everyone there were his friends and family. He couldn't believe it! He
had
party guests!
"Sorry about you getting the irrititis, Moonwatcher!" Said Molly-Ca.
"Thats alright, Molly. This makes up for everything!" Said Moonwatcher
excitedly.
"I'm glad you like it. And in your medical room is everything you need
for a
perfect party!" Said Molly-Ca, pointing to the balloons, streamers,
presents,
and cake.
"I never thought that I'd have this great of a party at a medical
place!"
Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, and there's more good news for you." Said Molly-Ca.
"What?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"The doctor said you have improved greatly! He said that your over your
irrititis and that you can go home tomorrow!" Said Molly-Ca with a
grin.
"Wow! I'm so happy... I thought I would be staying here for the rest of
my
life!" Said Moonwatcher.
"Nope. Your leaving tomorrow. Congratulations on your amazing
recovery!" Said
Molly-Ca to Moonwatcher.
"Thanks, Molly--" Began Moonwatcher, but Molly-Ca had kissed him, so he
didn't say another word.
"Your very welcome, Moonwatcher." Said Molly-Ca.
The first present Moonwatcher opened was from his parents. It was a
notebook.
"It's your new "Memory Book" to keep the memories you and Tray-Si
shared.
Your old Memory Book was getting filled up so we decided to get you a
new
one." Said Kay-Si to Moonwatcher.
"Thanks." Said Moonwatcher.
The next present Moonwatcher opened was from Molly-Ca. It was a shirt
that
said "I Love Someone Very Special" on it.
"Thanks, Molly." Moonwatcher told her.
"Don't mention it." Said Molly-Ca.
And, the next present Moonwatcher opened was from Molly-Ca's sister,
Zoey-Ca.
Moonwatcher laughed as he saw what Zoey-Ca had given him. They were
four ripe
oranges.
"Thanks, Zoe." Said Moonwatcher.
"Well I knew your favorite fruit was oranges so I got you some." Said
Zoey-Ca.
All the other presents Moonwatcher opened were nice but not as special
as the
first three presents he had opened.
"Now time for the cake!" Zoey-Ca said excitedly as Moonwatcher had
opened the
last present.
The whole room went up in laughter and then everyone got their fair
share of
birthday cake.
"Moonwatcher..." Molly-Ca started to say.
Moonwatcher looked right at her and he laughed at her as she did a
funny face.
"Yeah! Time for funny faces!" Said Zoey-Ca happily.
The whole room started to go up in laughter again.
"Why does everyone laugh when I say something?" Asked Zoey-Ca.
But that just made everyone laugh harder.
"This is ridiculous!" Said Zoey-Ca.
After cake all of the children played games and all of the grown-ups
talked
about stuff.
When the party was over it was time for Moonwatcher to go to sleep. He
went
to sleep and was excited because in the morning he would be going
home...
finally.
When it was morning he felt someone shake him awake, and he also heard
a
voice. It was of his mother's.
"Sweetheart, time to go home now." His mother told him.
"I can't believe it, I'm finally going home! This isn't a dream... is
it?"
Asked Moonwatcher, thinking how upset he would be if it was only a
dream.
"No, your not dreaming. Come on. Get up." Kay-Si said.
Moonwatcher got up and walked with his mother towards the door. Then he
looked back at that bed that he once had to stay in, and then he looked
at
the drooping streamers and the banner that was tooken down, it was now
laying
on the table. And he looked at the empty plates that once carried cake
on
them, but now only crumbs. He smiled back at the leftovers of the best
party
he had ever had.
When he got home it was pretty much the same. Everything looked the
same...
until he walked in the kitchen. He couldn't believe it! Balloons,
streamers,
everything, the works, EVERYWHERE!!
"Mom, whats all this? My birthday was yesterday. Why are you giving me
a
second birthday party?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"It's not a birthday party, hon. Look." Said Kay-Si, pointing to a
banner
much like the one he had had at his birthday party, except this one
said
"Welcome Home Moonwatcher" on it.
"Oh, so this is my.. coming home party?!" Asked Moonwatcher.
"Yep, it sure is." Said Kay-Si.
"Wow! Two parties in a row!" Said Moonwatcher.
"Only this party doesn't have something that your last party did. There
aren't many party guests. Just me and your father." Said Kay-Si.
"That's okay. I had the party guests yesterday. I dont mind having a
party
only with my family." Said Moonwatcher.
"Well, okay." Said Kay-Si to her son.
And another thing, there was no presents at this party, but Moonwatcher
didn't mind. He had everything else: Balloons, streamers, another cake,
and
that big banner, you can't forget that!
Moonwatcher had more fun at his birthday party but he liked this coming
home
party also. It was a great way to welcome him home. After his party he
began
writing in his new "Memory Book". He added something about his parties.
This
is what it said:
A memory:
Yesterday I had a wonderful time at my birthday party. And today I got
to
come home from that medical place. And I had another party: A coming
home
party! What does this have to do with my sis Tray-Si, you ask? Well, I
felt
like she was at both parties, even if she wasn't. And if she were
there, I
knew she would've loved it. Thinking about that made me feel like she
really
was there. Thanks, Tray-Si, for being my sister.
Moonwatcher
P.S. Life isn't always easy, but thinking about these memories makes it
easier.
Moonwatcher then put down his pencil and re-read what he had written,
then he
shut the Memory Book and placed it on his desk. He stretched and layed
on his
bed, knowing it was great to be home. He heard his mom call him for
dinner so
he went out of his room and into the kitchen.
"Mom, I'm not hungry. I had cake." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes but you still got to eat your dinner so you will be healthy." Said
Kay-Si.
"Oh, okay!" Said Moonwatcher with a sigh.
He didn't eat much of his dinner because of the cake he had but he did
enjoy
it.
"Mom, where's dad?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"Moonwatcher, your so silly! You know your dad has guard duty to do.
You
sound just like you did when you were six. You asked me the same exact
question." Kay-Si told Moonwatcher.
"Oh, that reminds me! I have to go on guard duty with dad, remember?"
Said
Moonwatcher.
"Yes but your father said you can take one day off because everything
you've
been through. You can start guard duty tomorrow morning with your dad,
okay?"
Said Kay-Si.
"Okay, mom." Replied Moonwatcher.
Moonwatcher then raced into his room and went to sleep. He was
exhausted from
the party he had had. When he fell asleep, he had a dream.
---Moonwatcher's Dream---
Moonwatcher was going outside for awhile, when he heard a noise from
behind
him. He turned around... and he couldn't believe who he saw!
It was Tray-Si! And she looked like what appeared to be an angel.
"Tray-Si!" He said in amazement.
"Hello, Moonwatcher." She said.
"You talked! When you were alive, you didn't know how to say anything!"
Said
Moonwatcher astonishingly.
"Now I can say every word. I know your sad about my death, Moonwatcher.
But
you have no reason to be. I'm now in a better place, and someday we'll
see
each other again. But now you must continue on with your life. You have
much
more ahead of you in the future. You have a long life to live, and when
the
time is right you will join me. But not now. You must go on with your
life,
and whenever you feel sad just look at that memory book you made with
all the
memories that we have shared." Said Moonwatcher's sister, Tray-Si.
"Okay, but, remember, Tray-Si, I will always love you! Your my baby
sister
whom I love so much." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, and I love you too, Moonwatcher, your my big brother and I love
you as
much as you love me. But now I must go;I must return to where my home
is
now." Said Tray-Si.
"No, Trace, dont go yet!" Said Moonwatcher to his sister.
"Goodbye, Moonwatcher! Goodbye." Said Tray-Si, disappearing before
Moonwatcher's very eyes.
"Goodbye." Said Moonwatcher with tears in his eyes.
---End of Moonwatcher's Dream---
Then Moonwatcher woke with a start. He looked around his room,
everything was
the same, except it was nighttime.
Moonwatcher got out his Memory Book and wrote about his dream in it.
Then he
smiled and closed the book, and sat it back on his desk. He yawned and
got
back in bed, and was soon sound asleep.
Just then, he could've sworn he heard Tray-Si say: "Goodnight
Moonwatcher.".
When he woke up he could smell breakfast cooking in the kitchen. He
climbed
out of bed and raced in. He looked at his mom, who was making
breakfast.
"Whats for breakfast, mother?" He asked her.
"The usual. Oatmeal, toast, stuff like that." Replied Kay-Si.
"Oatmeal?! I'm tired of oatmeal, mom! We ALWAYS have oatmeal for
breakfast!"
Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, I know, but I'm making it anyway." Said Kay-Si.
"Mom, last night I had a dream about Tray-Si. She was an angel and she
could
talk." Said Moonwatcher, changing the subject.
"She was? That's a sweet dream, Moonwatcher, but right now I'm busy."
Said
Kay-Si.
"Okay, well, I'll just go in my room and read until breakfast is
ready." Said
Moonwatcher.
"Okay, honey." Said Kay-Si.
When breakfast was ready, Moonwatcher ate, and then decided to go
outside for
a bit. His mother nodded at him and he went out the door.
"Wow, it certainly is a beautiful day!" Said Moonwatcher, heading
outside.
"Moonwatcher?" Said Steppenwolf, coming towards him.
"What is it?" Moonwatcher asked.
"You weren't up for guard duty this morning, but that's okay." Said
Steppenwolf.
"Yeah, I know, sorry. Hey, can I help ya now? I'm not doing anything."
Said
Moonwatcher.
"Okay, you may." Said Steppenwolf.
While Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher were on guard duty, they heard a
familiar
sound. A sound that sounded much like a gun.
"Move out of the way!" Said Steppenwolf, grabbing his son, then they
both
fell to the ground.
"Shoot! I almost had you! Oh well, I'm just practicing! I still have
alot to
learn about hunting!" Said a young overlander boy, coming out of the
bushes.
"Who are you? And why are you here?!" Asked Steppenwolf angrily.
"Dont get so worked up, guardian. I'm Henrie Windflyer, son of Harold
Windflyer, The Great Hunter." Said the overlander boy.
"Your father almost killed me and my father once!" Said Moonwatcher
angrily
to Henrie.
"That's his job. Mine, too. But now no one knows what happened to my
father,
Harold... and the rumor says that the guardian Steppenwolf has
something to
do with it. So I figured that's who my first target would be." Said
Henrie.
"Well you picked the wrong person to target, kid. I'm certainly not a
target
for a beginner. And anyway, who would want to have such a dirty job
like
your's anyway? If you were smart enough, you would see that what you
are
doing is wrong." Said Steppenwolf.
"Yeah right! I'm doing it because it's the best job I could get. I need
to
take you out, because you've done something with my father! So your my
first
target, and me, I'm no beginner. I'm an expert." Said Henrie, pointing
the
gun at Steppenwolf.
Steppenwolf did what he did along time ago when those "overlanders"
invaded
the island. Henrie soon knew what he was up against.
"You may have won this time, but next time, you wont be so lucky!" Said
Henrie, running off.
When Moonwatcher and Steppenwolf came back in from guard duty Kay-Si
was
worried at Moonwatcher's scrapes.
"Mom, they're just scrapes!" Said Moonwatcher with a sigh.
"Well, still..." Began Kay-Si.
"Okay! Okay! I'll put some medicine on it! But for goodness sake,
they're
just scrapes. It's not like I'm going to die or anything just because I
fell
down and got a few little scrapes, y'know." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, but it would still make me feel better if you took care of those
"few
little scrapes"." Said Kay-Si.
"Yeah... okay." Replied Moonwatcher.
Everytime Moonwatcher got hurt Kay-Si said something about it. Soon
Moonwatcher got irritated when his paranoid mom did this.
"Mom, I have had it! They are just little scrapes! You dont have to be
so
worried about it!" Said Moonwatcher upsettingly.
Soon this turned into a family argument between a mother and her son.
It was
getting ridiculous. Steppenwolf now spent more time outside because he
didn't
want to stick around and listen to his wife and son argue. Finally, one
day,
he had just about enough of it.
"Okay, okay! This is getting a little ridiculous! Your arguing about
something so small, and I cant even take it anymore! Just please, stop!
It's
not worth arguing about! It's not going to get you anywhere!" Said
Steppenwolf upsettingly.
Kay-Si and Moonwatcher stared at Steppenwolf and stopped arguing. But
it only
started more problems. Kay-Si and Moonwatcher began to ignore each
other. Not
a word was said.
At first, Steppenwolf didn't seem to mind, but soon it got to him as
much as
the arguing had.. or more. He couldn't take the silence much longer.
"Okay, I'm just about fed up with this! You aren't speaking to each
other
just because of a little thing! I can't stand the silence! Why dont you
make
up and forget about it?!" Said Steppenwolf.
Soon Kay-Si and Moonwatcher were talking again, and they had put that
little
argument behind them. When Moonwatcher was eating his dinner one day,
he
decided to bring it up.
"Mom.." He began.
"What is it, honey?" His mom asked him.
"I'm sorry about that argument we had. I really am." Said Moonwatcher.
"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so worried about a few little
scrapes."
Said Kay-Si.
Kay-Si and Moonwatcher did have more arguments, but none as bad as that
argument. Steppenwolf was grateful that everything was back to normal.
All of them were at the table eating breakfast when Kay-Si heard the
door.
She got up and when she opened the door she saw a black male echidna
standing
there.
"Um.. hello?" She said.
"Oh, sorry for not introducing myself, ma'am. My name is Felix." Said
the
stranger.
"Oh, well, my name is Kay-Si. What do you want?" Kay-Si said.
"I'm looking for my poodle, her name is Sweetheart. Have you seen her?"
Asked
Felix.
"No, I haven't. Sorry." Said Kay-Si.
"Well may I come in and look around anyway? Sweetheart is very tricky.
Sometimes she hides behind people's furniture." Said Felix.
"Well, okay." Said Kay-Si, letting the dark black echidna in.
Steppenwolf came in the room and soon noticed the stranger standing in
the
living room.
"Who's this?" He asked.
"This is Felix. He's looking for his poodle, named Sweetheart. He
thought
Sweetheart might be in here hiding or something." Said Kay-Si.
"Oh. Well, I'm going out. Will you be okay?" Steppenwolf said.
"Yeah.. I'll be just fine." Said Kay-Si.
"Okay." Said Steppenwolf, heading out the door.
Felix turned to Kay-Si with a look in his eyes.
"Sorry, I dont see your dog Sweetheart anywhere." Said Kay-Si.
"That's okay. Your the only sweetheart I'll ever want." Said Felix,
leaning
down to kiss Kay-Si.
Kay-Si moved out of the way and Felix fell on the floor with a thud.
"Why'd you do that for?!" Kay-Si snapped at him.
"I was just going to give you a little kiss, thats all." Said Felix.
"Yeah? Well, I'm already taken!" Said Kay-Si.
"By who?" Wondered Felix.
"By my husband! Whom you just seen walk out the door!" Said Kay-Si.
"The guardian? No way! Why would you want to be the wife of a guardian,
when
he has no time for you?!" Said Felix.
"He has time for me! Just not all the time. And I dont mind one bit
because I
love him, and thats all that really matters!" Said Kay-Si.
"Well, if ya dump him for me I'd have time for you." Said Felix.
"I would never divorce him! Not when I love him so much! Now, please,
get out
of this house! I dont want to see you ever again." Said Kay-Si angrily.
"Sorry, ma'am. No can do." Said Felix, starting to kiss Kay-Si again.
Kay-Si was thinking that it couldn't get more worse than this, but she
was
wrong. Her husband had just walked back in. She pulled away from Felix.
"Why'd you do that?!" Asked Felix.
"For number one, I dont love you, and I would never kiss you. And for
number
two, I love my husband, NOT YOU, and he has just walked in!" Said
Kay-Si.
"I dont care!" Said Felix, leaning down to kiss Kay-Si again.
Kay-Si struggled to get free of Felix's grip on her. But he wouldn't
let her
go.
"Hey! What are you doing with my wife?!" Steppenwolf shouted at Felix.
"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm giving her a kiss!" Said Felix.
"Really, I never would've guessed!" Said Steppenwolf sarcastically.
"Ver-y funny." Said Felix, grabbing Kay-Si to kiss her again.
Kay-Si pulled away from him. "Hey, stop that!"
"Stop? Why would I want to do that?" Asked Felix.
"You WILL stop, if you know whats good for you!" Said Steppenwolf
angrily.
"Oh, tough talk coming from the guardian. I'm reallyyyyyy scared." Said
Felix.
"Hey, I hear a buncha shouting in here, whats going on?" Asked
Moonwatcher,
coming in the room.
"You really dont wanna know, sweety." Replied Kay-Si, moving out of the
way
as Felix tried to grab her for another kiss again.
"Mom, who's the guy?" Asked Moonwatcher, noticing the black stranger
standing
in the living room.
"Mom? You have a kid?" Felix asked Kay-Si.
"Yes, I do. And, Moonwatcher, the guy's name is Felix, and I dont think
he's
someone you want to know." Said Kay-Si, moving out of the way of
Felix's
attempts to grab and kiss her.
"Okay, what are you doing to mom?!" Moonwatcher asked Felix.
"Just trying to kiss her, and I dont think thats any of your concern."
Said
Felix, trying again.
"Yes it is! She's my mother!" Said Moonwatcher angrily.
"Yes, she is. And she's my wife! And you better get out of here,
mister! I
dont think your included in this family." Said Steppenwolf, pointing to
the
door.
"Okay, I'll go. But someday I'll have what I want!" Said Felix,
stomping out
the door.
"That really freaked me out! Mom, are you okay?" Moonwatcher asked his
mother.
"Yes, I'm fine." Replied Kay-Si.
"What happened there?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"That Felix guy was trying to kiss your mother, thats what happened."
Replied
Steppenwolf.
"Yeah, but how did it happen?" Asked Moonwatcher.
"Well, he came here saying he lost his poodle, named Sweetheart. He
wanted to
come in and look around, to see if Sweetheart was here. And when your
father
went out the door he said I was his sweetheart and he began attempts to
try
and kiss me." Answered Kay-Si.
"But, mother, I thought you only loved dad." Said Moonwatcher
confusingly.
"I do. And thats why I was moving out of the way, but Felix didn't seem
to
care." Said Kay-Si.
"Oh, I see now." Said Moonwatcher.
"Yes, but I will try my best to make sure that that doesn't happen
again."
Said Steppenwolf.
And, so far, it hasn't. But, you never know what will happen...
THE END
