Guardian in Training By:SnowPuppy One evening, like any other, young teenage Moonwatcher was in his room reading. "Dinner's ready, sweety!" Said Moonwatcher's mom, Kay-Si. "Coming, mother!" Said Moonwatcher, putting down his book and racing into the kitchen. "Now you be good and clear you plate, okay? I'm just going to be out doing some errands. I'll be right back." Said Kay-Si. "Okay, mom." Said Moonwatcher, shrugging. He ate all of his food and went to go outside for a bit. He was getting tired of being cooped up inside. "Hi, mom!" Said Moonwatcher, coming outside. "Honey, go back and finish your dinner." Said Kay-Si. "I already did." Said Moonwatcher. "Well go back in and read or something. I'm busy right now. I will be right back." Said Kay-Si. "No,mom, I want to come outside! I hardly ever get to go out here anymore." Said Moonwatcher. "Okay, but dont go wondering off." Said Kay-Si. "I wont." Agreed Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher was walking along when he heard a voice from behind him. "Hey!!!! Moonwatch!!!!" Moonwatcher turned his head, and there was Molly-Ca's sister, Zoey-Ca, who had a crush on him. "Why dont you give up already?" Said Moonwatcher. "Becooz your so cute! Wanna go out wiff me?? Huh?? Huh?" Asked Zoey. "No way! I'm not going out with a six year old brat! I'm thirteen! Wake up and smell the flowers, kid! And you talk like a two year old! Why would I want to go out with you, anyway?" Said Moonwatcher. "Becooz! Dont youf think I'm cute?" Asked Zoey. "Nope. Your sister is way cuter than you." Said Moonwatcher. "Oh, I'll gets that Molly-Ca Bils! She will wish she had never been born, when she takes's Zoey-Ca Bils' guy!!!! I'll gets her!" Said Zoey. "You can't do that if I never was your guy. And I never was. I'm Molly-Ca's! Accept that fact, sister! Now go on home, Zoe!" Said Moonwatcher. "Your are so crooel!" Said Zoey-Ca, running home with tears in her eyes. "Whatever. And that's cruel, not crooel! Ugh, whatever." Said Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher walked along and sat down after getting tired. Maybe I was a little too harsh on Zoey-Ca? You think? Thought Moonwatcher. No way! Zoey-Ca brought herself into it. She should know that she's too young to be dating, and that she should start liking guys her age! Moonwatcher nodded his head. But then something else came into mind. He remembered, a long, long, time ago, when he was only eight, he had kissed seven-year old Molly-Ca, when she wasn't ready. He remembered how hurt he had felt, and how it felt like he would never love again, because his heart was broken into many pieces, and because of it, he had ran away(Read "The Young Guardian" for more information!). What if Zoey-Ca felt the same way? I got to find her! I know how she feels... to have her heart broken like that, espicially when your that young. What if she does the same thing I did... run away? I must find her! I must! Thought Moonwatcher. He raced back. Then he heard the sound of crying. He hid behind a big oak tree, and peered around the side of it. There was Zoey-Ca, leaning on a rock, crying her eyes out. "Zoey..." Began Moonwatcher. Zoey looked up. "What is it?" "I know how it feels, to have your heart break like that. I made a big mistake with your sister years ago, and because of it, I thought she didn't like me. But she did, she just didn't love me. But now she does. I want you to remember, Zoey, even if it seems like the one you love doesn't feel the same way about you, doesn't mean they dont like you. Because we can still be friends. So dont ever think that I dont like you, because I do. But I dont like you in the way your thinking, I just like you. I dont LOVE you. I just like you. Okay?" Said Moonwatcher. Zoey nodded her head. "Thanks". And before Moonwatcher knew it, she was gone. And then, Moonwatcher heard a sound behind him. Click, click. It sounded like a gun! He didn't know what to do. He then did all he could do;he leapt out of the way when he heard the gunshot. And the bullet missed. It was a good thing, too. Moonwatcher's whole body was trembling. If he hadn't leapt out of the way, his life would have been over, right then and there! "Shoot, I missed!" Said the person who shot at Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher looked around, but he couldn't see them. Whoever it was was probably hiding somewhere. "No matter. I'll give it another shot. Harold Windflyer always gets what he wants!" They said. Moonwatcher now knew that this person who was trying to kill him was named Harold Windflyer. But who was Harold Windflyer? He never heard of that person before. He decided to run home, before he did get shot. He ran as fast as he could and didn't watch where he was going. He bumped right into his dad. "What's the big rush?" Asked Steppenwolf, getting off of the ground. "It's.. them.. Harold.. Wind..flyer.." Started Moonwatcher. "Slow down! Now what is it?" Asked Steppenwolf. "Well, I was taking a walk, when I heard a gun. I leapt out of the way right when the gun shot. I heard whoever it was say their name was Harold Windflyer." Said Moonwatcher. "And this just happened?" Asked Steppenwolf. "Yeah, a few minutes ago. I suppose he's still there." Said Moonwatcher. "I bet he is, too. I'll go looking for him. You get back inside where it's safe." Said Steppenwolf. Moonwatcher hurried inside and told his mother the whole story. She started to freak out. Moonwatcher rolled his eyes and reassured his mother that Steppenwolf would be safe;he always knew what he was doing. Moonwatcher had an extra piece of lemon pie. Usually he couldn't have more than one serving of dessert a day, but his mother was so worried about Steppenwolf that she didn't really care if Moonwatcher had another piece of pie or not. Moonwatcher was most delighted at this. He loved lemon pie. When he was finished with his tasty treat, he went back to reading. But soon, it started to get darker outside, and Steppenwolf wasn't back yet. Moonwatcher began to worry about his father. What if they got him? I dont know what I will do if I have no father! I dont even know if he's dead or alive right now! Thought Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher put down his book, and went in the living room, where his mother was looking out the window, waiting for her husband to return. "Mom?" Said Moonwatcher. "If your thinking what I'm thinking, honey, I couldn't agree more." Said Kay-Si. Then they both went outside looking for Steppenwolf, which was husband to Kay-Si and father to Moonwatcher. "Moonwatcher, your the one that knows where this guy was. Now, please show me where you were when you heard the gunshot. That just might be where your father is." Said Kay-Si. "Okay." Said Moonwatcher. Moonwatcher directed his mother to where he was when he had heard the gunshot. And what they saw before their very eyes, shocked them both. It was Steppenwolf, and most of his chest was covered in blood. Kay-Si and Moonwatcher both sobbed at the sight that they saw. Moonwatcher then heard the same sound he had heard earlier. Was it possible that this killer was still lurking around...? But Moonwatcher didn't have time to react. The bullet was already piercing into him. He fell to the ground. "Moonwatcher!" Shouted Kay-Si. Kay-Si sobbed loudly. The two people she cared about most were now laying lifeless on the ground. Kay-Si then realized she was the only one left. Her heart beated faster as she watched for anyone trying to attack. She heard the gun. She imidietly reacted to the sound and moved out of the way. She really didn't care if her life ended or not, but what she did care about was her husband and child. And if she got shot, too, she would die for sure(read the last story, "The Love Month", for more information!), and no one else was there to help her husband and child but her. "Shoot! Oh, I'll get you! Stay in one spot, lady, so I can take you out!" Said Harold Windflyer, now revealing himself. Kay-Si gulped and stared at Harold Windflyer. He was a tall "overlander" guy. Was it possible that Steppenwolf had not tooken out all of those "overlanders" way back when they invaded the island? "Dont think that just because your a female I'm not going to shoot you, because I am." Said Harold Windflyer. He aimed and shot again but he also missed again. Kay-Si had moved out of the way again. "Will you stop that, and stay in one spot?" Said Harold Windflyer. "Why would I want to do that? So you can kill me? Dream on!" Said Kay-Si. "Oh, but I'm not dreaming, I'm killing!" Said Harold. Kay-Si moved out of the way just in time. The bullet had almost got to her. "See, lady, that bullet almost got you! Next time, it sure wont miss! You now know I mean trouble. You now know what your facing. Heh, heh." Said Harold. "Well, you dont know what YOUR doing!" Said Kay-Si. "Yes I do, I'm killing!" Said Harold. "No! Your hurting the lives of people who haven't even done anything to you! The ones you shot, over there, are my husband and son! I love them so much! And I dont want them to die!" Said Kay-Si. "Oh, come on, lady! They're already dead! I guess you dont matter. Two out of three is good. But I will be back." Said Harold. Kay-Si had to get Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher out of here and into the hospital. They were both losing blood very quickly and needed serious medical attention! When they were heading to the hospital, both Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher's heartbeats were very faint. Finally, when they got to the hospital, one of them showed a hopeful sign. Moonwatcher stirred. He opened his eyes and saw his mother. "Moonwatcher! Your okay!" Said Kay-Si happily. "I'm.. in the hospital?!" Said Moonwatcher, now noticing his surroundings. "Yes, honey. That Harold guy shot you. But you will be okay now." Said Kay-Si. Moonwatcher gasped. "What about dad?" "He hasn't woke up yet but I'm sure he'll be just fine." Said Kay-Si. But she really wasn't too sure herself. Then they heard something terrible. Steppenwolf's heartbeat was getting fainter by the minute! "We're losing him! We're losing him!" Said Tam-Ra, the head medic. "No!" Said Kay-Si, panicking. The medics done everything that they could for him, but it was no use. His heart was getting closer and closer to stopping. Everybody watched in horror as Steppenwolf was slipping away from them. But Kay-Si didn't want him to die, it wasn't time for him to yet. She grabbed his hand and looked at him. "Please dont give up. Please open your eyes, be okay." Said Kay-Si, tears rolling down her cheeks. His heartbeat stopped. Kay-Si screamed "No!". "We're sorry. But we've lost him." Said Tam-Ra. Kay-Si shook her head and shedded more tears. "Please, dont leave me. I love you so much!" Said Kay-Si through her sobs. And, then the impossible happened. Steppenwolf's heart started beating again! It was a miracle! His heart started to get stronger. Kay-Si saw Steppenwolf's color coming back to his face. He slowly opened his eyes. Everyone was amazed. He was alright! He looked around. "I'm.. in the hospital?" "Yes you got shot but your okay now right?" Said Kay-Si. "Yes, I'm, fine." He said. Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher were checked out before they got to go back home. They were fine, which was a miracle, espicially for Steppenwolf. Soon they got to go back to their lives, and Steppenwolf had something very important to discuss with Moonwatcher. "I need to talk with you about something, son." He said. "What is it?" Asked curious Moonwatcher. "Someday I wont be guardian anymore and you'll have to take my place." Said Steppenwolf. "Yeah?" Said Moonwatcher. "Well, after what has happened and all, I could use a little help." Said Steppenwolf. "I'd be glad to." Said Moonwatcher. And after that, Moonwatcher began to help Steppenwolf. You could say Moonwatcher was a "Guardian in Training". And when this happened, Kay-Si was all alone in the house by herself. She didn't like this, she didn't like to be left alone. She began to wish that her and Steppenwolf had another child. She missed cradling a small baby in her arms. She knew that her and Steppenwolf agreed not to have another child because of that last egg(see the story "Now They Are a Family" for more information), but she missed cradling a baby and raising a child. She missed it so. That's when she decided to have a talk with Steppenwolf about it. When he came back in on his break, she asked him about it. "Steppenwolf, I need to talk to you about something." She said. "What? You want to help out too?" Steppenwolf joked. "No, I need to talk with you about having another child." Said Kay-Si. "Hey! Yeah! If you guys had another kid I'd have someone to play with and I'd have a brother or a sister! I wouldn't be an only kid anymore!" Said Moonwatcher happily. "Moonwatcher, this is between me and your mom, can you please...?" Said Steppenwolf. "Yeah, okay." Said Moonwatcher, shrugging. "Another child? Kay-Si, remember the agreement we had? On not to have another child, because it might kill you?" Said Steppenwolf to his wife. "But I miss it! I miss raising a child! And every day I'm all alone in the house, and I hate it! Can't we just have one more child? Please?" Said Kay-Si. "Why dont you tell your sister to come over? You wont be lonely then. And she doesn't talk alot so it would be like having a baby around." Teased Steppenwolf. "Come on, Steppenwolf! I really mean it!" Said Kay-Si. "We'll see." Said Steppenwolf. Every week, Kay-Si went to check if she was pregnant or not. That's just how desperate she was to have another baby. But all the time it was negetive. Kay-Si was upset. She really did want a second child. But one miraculous day, Kay-Si went to check if she was pregnant. She knew it would be negetive, like all those other days. She decided this would be the last time she'd check and once she found out it was negetive again she would just give up. But she was wrong. Instead of negetive, it said positive. Kay-Si stared at it. Positive? It's usually negetive. Maybe it just started going positive because it said negetive too much. I dont think I'm pregnant. If I am, thats great. But why would I be pregnant, when all those other times it said negetive? Thought Kay-Si confusingly. Kay-Si decided not to tell Steppenwolf about the miraculous "positive", because it might be wrong, and she didn't want to get his hopes up. So she decided not to tell. But as days, weeks, months, passed, Kay-Si found out that it wasn't wrong. She WAS pregnant, because her stomach was getting bigger. She held on to her breath and decided to tell Steppenwolf about that day that her pregnancy check was positive. "Steppenwolf, I need to tell you something that I should have told you along time ago." Said Kay-Si nervously. "What?" He asked her. "Well, about six months ago, I found out that I was pregnant. The check was positive. I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid the check might be wrong and that I'd get your hopes up. But it turns out that I am pregnant." Said Kay-Si. "Yeah, I figured something like that happened along time ago." Said Steppenwolf. "How'd you know?" Asked a puzzled Kay-Si. "It's not too hard to figure out." Said Steppenwolf, looking at Kay-Si's stomach. "I guess not." Said Kay-Si. "Well, I'm happy about it but I'm also a little concerned. Remember last time?" Said Steppenwolf. "Yeah, but hopefully this wont be like last time." Said Kay-Si. "Yeah, hopefully." Said Steppenwolf. The rest of Kay-Si's pregnancy went smoothly. When it was time for her to give birth, she was on the couch reading. And, luckily, Steppenwolf hadn't gone back out for guard duty yet. Kay-Si put her book down. "S-Steppenwolf!" She said. "What is it?" He asked her. "It's.. it's time for me to.. give birth!" She said. "Oh my--! Lets get you to the hospital right away!" Said Steppenwolf. When Kay-Si got there she was ready to give birth a second time. She bit her lip and hoped that she wouldn't die while giving birth. In the waiting room, Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher were seated on a couch. "Dad, what do you think I will have? A brother or a sister?" Asked Moonwatcher. "I dont know, we'll have to wait to find out." Said Steppenwolf. "Dad, will mom be alright?" Asked Moonwatcher. "I sure hope so." Replied Steppenwolf. "Dad, will the baby like me as a brother?" Asked Moonwatcher. "I'm sure the baby will love you as a brother, okay?" Said Steppenwolf. "Dad, how much more long will it take?" Asked Moonwatcher. "I dont know, okay?" Said Steppenwolf. "Dad..." Began Moonwatcher. "Please, no more questions!" Said Steppenwolf. "Okay." Said Moonwatcher. Just then, one of the nurses came into the room. "Congratulations, the first egg is out!" She said. "Wow! Do I have a brother or a sister?" Asked Moonwatcher. "We dont know yet. It hasn't hatched yet." Replied the nurse. "First egg!?" Said Steppenwolf shockingly. "Yes, it seems that your wife is having more than one egg. And more than one egg means more than one baby." Said the nurse. "Wow! I'm going to have more than one brother or sister! Hooray!" Said Moonwatcher happily. "How is Kay-Si?" Asked Steppenwolf. "She is in alot of pain but she is going to be just fine." Replied the nurse. "Georgy-Na! Get in here!" Yelled someone. "Coming!" Said the nurse. Soon after, the nurse came in and told Steppenwolf and Moonwatcher that Kay-Si had her second egg. "Thats great. May I see her yet?" Asked Steppenwolf. "No, thats not all." Said the nurse, Georgy-Na. "You mean there's more?" Said Steppenwolf with wide-eyes. "Yep, there's more. Oops, Linda-La is calling me! Gotta get in there!" Said Georgy-Na running back. "This is becoming a strange day." Said Steppenwolf. "I want a brother or a sister, but I dont want millions of them!" Said Moonwatcher. "Well, I dont want millions of children, either!" Said Steppenwolf. Finally, Georgy-Na ran back in. "Congratulations, she has had her third egg!" Said Georgy-Na, outta breath. "Are we going to have to wait for a forth egg?" Asked Steppenwolf. "Yeah. But this should be the last one. Gotta run!" Said Georgy-Na. "I knew Kay-Si's stomach was pretty big, but this is ridiculous!" Said Steppenwolf. "You mean I'm going to have four brothers and sisters?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Yes. And hopefully thats all." Said Steppenwolf. Soon, Georgy-Na rushed back in to tell them some news. "Did she finally have the forth egg?" Asked Steppenwolf. "No, not yet. I came to tell you of some other good news. The first egg hatched. And the first baby is a boy! Congratulations!" Said Georgy-Na. "Thats wonderful." Said Steppenwolf. "I have a brother!! I have a brother!!" Said Moonwatcher happily. And finally, after much time, Kay-Si had her forth egg. "The forth egg is finally out!" Said Georgy-Na. "Thats good. Is there a fifth egg?" Asked Steppenwolf. "No, that was the last one." Said Georgy-Na. "Good." Said Steppenwolf. Steppenwolf came into see Kay-Si. "How are you feeling?" He asked her. "Exhuasted." Replied Kay-Si. "Well, now we have four kids, plus Moonwatcher, so that makes five." Said Steppenwolf. "Yeah, I dont think we should have any more kids after this. I'm so exhuasted and we got enough already." Said Kay-Si. "Your right on that." Said Steppenwolf. It turned out that their four babies were two girls and two boys. There names were Kyle, Tray-Si, Kaitlin-Si, and Jayjay(Really it was just Jay, but they called him Jayjay for a nickname.). As the four got older, they got more mischievous. "Mom! Kaitlin is in my stuff again! MOM!" Shouted Moonwatcher. "No, no, Kaity, thats not for you sweetheart." Said Kay-Si picking up the troublesome toddler. Each of the quadruplets had ideas of their own. Kyle decided he would try brushing his teeth. He grabbed a toothbrush and started squeezing toothpaste on it. But he squeezed a little too much. Soon the brush was covered in toothpaste, and so was the floor. But Kyle didn't care. He put the brush in his mouth and tryed to clean his teeth with it. Soon, his face was covered in toothpaste also. "Lets clean you, and the bathroom up, before your mom notices this mess!" Said Steppenwolf reaching down to clean Kyle's toothpaste-face. Meanwhile, Jayjay had his own idea. He watched his mom mop the floor. He looked in the bucket. He crawled over to it and put his hands in it. He began to splash the water everywhere. "No, Jayjay! No! Dont do that!" Said Kay-Si, reaching down to pick up Jayjay. Tray-Si watched her brothers and sister and decided to try the same. She looked up at a glass-bowl and thought it pretty. She wanted to play with it. She knocked it down but it shattered into millions of pieces. She started to cry;the shiny treasure she saw before was gone. "Mom is going to get you for that! That was her favorite bowl!" Said Moonwatcher, picking up his crying sister. Moonwatcher cleaned up the mess, thinking his mother would never find out if he did so. But she did find out. She was upset. She didn't know what to do! The quadruplets were looking for trouble all the time! Then Kay-Si woke up in bed. She looked over to her husband. He was asleep. She looked at the clock. It was 3:00 AM. She decided to check on the quadruplets. But they were gone. She woke up Moonwatcher. "Moonwatcher, do you know where your brothers and sisters are?!" She asked him. "Brothers and sisters?" Asked Moonwatcher. "Yes, the quadruplets!" Said Kay-Si. "Quadruplets? Mom, were you dreaming about having more children again?" Asked Moonwatcher. "A dream.. it was a dream. So I never got pregnant a second time?" Asked Kay-Si. "Not that I know of. Unless your keeping something from me and dad." Said Moonwatcher. "No.. I'm not. A dream. Thats all it was. They weren't real."Said Kay-Si. "No they weren't, and mom? Can you please go back to sleep? I'm really tired." Said Moonwatcher. Kay-Si nodded and went back to bed. THE END
