Introduction
by: Mauser
Greetings and welcome to the introduction of this novel...and it is. First to say: I am very grateful to True-Red to post this up and have her award winning site to have a forum to bring this to you. Yes, I have this arc on Fan Fiction but it was here that I first saw the fanfiction from Ellie-Za about the birth of Lara-Su and I heard a voice call to me to write one. I started with an old idea that I had if Knuckles had a brother...well, he does. But I wanted to have a “full” brother. I mused over scenarios and told myself that I WASN’T going to write a fiction where a lost brother comes and saves the day. One: I’m sure many fan-fics have been written that depicts something of that nature, and I’, one who likes to think outside the box. (Like our red hero!) But where to begin. I knew I wanted to make him lost...and the old idea I had revolved around the Star Wars arc and a whole slew of others had him like that. However, I didn’t want to dwell on past childhood dreams and fantasies that a reader would see for what they were. Granted I could have brought in a lot of readers and praise, but I also like to stick to current events.
So again, I thought about where I wanted to begin this.
I found myself at a movie theater watching “Casino Royale.” Spys and operators have always intrigued me and I wonder how I could develop a character around that whole aura of thought. Driving from the movie to work, so happens I was listening to Johnny Cash’s “Hurt.” With that song going through my head as I did very menial tasks of walking and making sure no one stole anything during the night; I developed a psyche for a character that was utterly cold.
To my agitation though, the mind set resembled too much like Shadow’s and having two protagonist characters in the same loir didn’t seem right for a fan-fiction. So I asked myself, “how can I make someone really hurt to keep themselves away from their family for over two years?”
Two hours later I answered my question; make him lost...but more ways than one.
My basic plans for this, along with scenes where “supposed” to be easy and short...then I added a submarine to the picture from a game that I play. Hopefully by now before you have started on this next novel, True Red has taken precious time out from her life and posted the fully finished version (which get another once over purely for style purposes). If that has occured, I suggest you read it before you continue on with this. For those who have, the ending was a depressing killer (wasn’t it) unlike most novels that try to end on an uplifting note.
But the ending also sets the stage for this. This book, this quest which you all will be undertaking, is the main idea of what I wanted to tell in this arc. Yes, I have many other ideas that I WILL pursue (motivation kick for me to see this through) but there are five chronicles that I want write.
This is one of them.
A major word of caution for young readers, (even though I haven’t finished this novel totally as I write this introduction) the chapters in here will involve horrors that are seen in wars. Violence is heavy in this along with blood and life contents being purged from bodies by violent means. I let a restriction of swear words be lifted but not by much. It really gave me a chance to make comical phrases instead of say a single four letter word in its entirety. But there are some sections in here that are edited for content for Knuckle’s Haven while I kept them in for Fan Fiction .net. Mostly to keep true to rules I instilled in myself in the beginning.
The title is taken from a book called, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold. It’s a John LeCarre’ novel and has been created as a movie. The book can be boring to some, but the reason why I took the title cause it totally fits of what is going to happen. You all just have read it.
This book was going to be centered purely on Aleutian. After reading other fan fics, I have seen a lot of stories that focused on the main original character from the fan-fiction’s creator. My reason why I didn’t follow this path...I got turned off from the story. So a lot of the original arc’s characters will be making their appearances and will have major roles to the story. This story also works a lot on sub-plots so a chapter you might just want to jump into cause the title looks great, could make you lost. But there are some that I crafted to where they can be told without too much tie ins from previous chapters.
Just image this story as a Tom Clancey novel but with a little more emphasis on emotions and descriptions.
You will see the Dark Legion in here and I tried my best to paint them the way they are in the book, but I added a little more personalty to them to build them as strong characters in their own right. Deer Wood Forest and Albion are connected to them, and as far as I know...the Legion as never stepped foot on Journey’s End.
And last but not least, a lot of thought provoking chapters in this. Plus, a building but strained relationship with Locke and Aleutian.
Speaking of whom...
I can’t help feel bad for what I have done to him. When I write this and go back over the chapters and the story through my triple editing processes...I feel that he is a regular person like you and I. His feelings, his pain...it all makes me feel ashamed that I subject him to all those terrible things. So, for me to begin this whole, I have to make my feelings known to him...even if he is only a made up character in the deepest portions of my mind.
“I’m sorry Aleutian...I truly am.”
And now onto the story itself. Get passed the simple prologue that will have ramifications latter on...and you will hear a voice call to her lover on the winds...wanting him back.
