Unpleasant Reunion Part One: Unexpected Surprise
March 26, 3237
Sonic’s Home 7:04 A.M
It had been a week since that fateful day, when ones greatest nightmares came to life.

"Okay you guys, now listen carefully, you two are going to have to take this mission without me", Sonic said with an unusual serious voice. "It seems as if there has been some mysterious activity going on in the now inhabited Sandopolis. There have been some....", he paused knowing that the next word that escaped his mouth would shock them. "Murders", he continued. Knuckles and Tails eyes widened in unison, then the start young fox slightly shivering. "Occurring in the northwestern part of the city. So I want you two to investigate." "I’m working on a case with...", he glanced at the playful pink hedgehog brushing her hair, humming slightly. He sighed, Knuckles and Tails just smiled wickedly at each other. "Amy...", he said shaking his head. "Now if anything happens then just call me", he said handing them a small device similar to a cell phone, no buttons or anything just a simple black box with two holes and an antenna. "Well, I have things to do, I’ll see you later."

Uninhabited Sandopolis Area 9:47 A.M
"That was pretty nice of Sonic to give us a mission without him", Tails said. "Yeah, but I kinda felt sorry for ‘em" Knuckles commented. "Well, that’s a surprise", Tails replied slightly grinning."Why do you say that?". "Cause he got stuck with Amy", Knuckles replied. The two burst out laughing. "Yeah, we all know what will happen there", Tails replied then started laughing again. But this time the echidna wasn’t laughing. Tails stopped just after he noticed his red-furred comrade stopped in his tracks, sniffing the air. "What’s wrong?", Tails asked in a worried voice. "We’ve got company." The echidna responded. "Who?" He said, still worried. "I don’t know, but it seems so familiar". Knuckles replied suspiciously. "My, my, my". A voice came from the unknown. "My own twin can’t recognize himself, how pathetic." Suddenly a dark figure came out in the shape of an echidna. "Who are you!" Knuckles said in a threatening voice. "My name is Flashbang, nice to meet you...brother", the voice replied. He walked forward. The shadows disappearing behind him, showing his true figure. Tails eyes widened and Knuckles gasped noticing that the newly appeared figure looked just like Knuckles.
The only difference was his attire of a brown leather jacket that went to his ankles and the two handguns in holsters on his belt. He grasped a handgun. Tails and Knuckles then stood ready to battle, their muscles tensed. "Hmmm", he said waving his gun in the air. "Who should I kill first?" He then said aiming the gun at Tails. "The chosen one or....", he turned the pistol slightly to Knuckles. "The guardian." He finished. "Ah, the little fox boy", he said aiming the gun back at Tails. Knuckles was then in front of Tails his arms spread wide like a human shield. "If you’re going to get him, you’re going to have to come through me!" Knuckles yelled. "Knuckles you’ll be killed", Tails said terrified. "I am a guardian, I was sent here to protect others no matter what the cost, if there is the chance of death, then that is a risk I’ll have to take", Knuckles replied. "Now I want you to get out of here. Call Sonic on the communicator and tell him everything", Knuckles said. "But....", Tails stammered. "Now go!", Knuckles responded. Tails followed his orders. He didn’t want to irritate the echidna any longer he ran as fast as he could ’I wish Sonic was here’ he thought. Then suddenly he heard a loud gunshot behind him. He turned and gasped at the horrific sight before him. The leather coated echidna had his gun raised and Knuckles was plummeting toward the ground. "NO!", Tails said screaming at the top of his lungs. The he remembered what the echidna had told him, ‘Call Sonic on the communicator and tell him everything‘. Still running for his life he flipped open the device and swallowed, he didn’t want to tell Sonic Knuckles’ fate. He flipped open the comm and it instantly responded "Tails what’s wrong", Sonic said in a worried voice. "Sonic, Knuckles is gone", Tails said quickly. "Where did he go?", Sonic said a little irritated. "Someone aimed a gun at him and...", Tails couldn’t take it the truth was just too horrible. Sonic was silent. "I couldn’t do anything he told me to run.", Tails said. Sonic could almost see him crying. "Okay get back as fast as you can we’ll see what we can do." "Okay", Tails responded, his voice impossibly small. He then flicked the communicator off.

Unpleasant Reunion Part Two: Terrifying Visions
Tails finally came home with his eyes brimming with tears. When the door opened Amy ran out crying. Tails and her just stood there hugging each other for what seemed like hours. Then they came inside, Tails noticed Sonic’s eyes completely red. They didn’t have one conversation at all that day. They ate and simply went to sleep. Six days past by. Tails still had nightmares about how he was helpless to stop it. Then one night, it was completely different.

Tails was sound asleep, he was still having nightmares but he had gotten used to them. Suddenly a dark figure approached the door of their home. It took out a handgun and blasted the lock. Sonic sped out and confronted it. "Who are you", he said in a threatening voice. "I’ve come to see an old friend", the dark figure responded exposing itself. "Knuckles!?" , Sonic said curiously. "I thought you were...." Sonic couldn’t finish as Knuckles was choking the life out of him, when he fell unconscious, Knuckles threw him into the picture on the wall. The sound of shattering glass instantly woke Tails up. ’He’s after me’ he thought. He quietly crept out of bed and hid in the closet. "Oh, Taaaaaiilllssss", he heard the voice call. "Come out, come out, wherever you are", he heard the voice again much closer. Then he heard the bed flip over. "It’s me, your old pal, can we talk?" Now that the voice was closer he instantly knew who it was. "Knuckles?", he said terrified. The closet door flew open. Tails let out a yelp. "That’s right, and I’m back, for revenge". "On who?" Tails asked. He let out a small chuckle. "Who do you think? It’s you!" "Why me?" Tails asked. "Because you are the reason I died", the leather draped echidna said. "If you had cared about me, then I wouldn’t have died", He continued. "You’re the reason I got killed, he wasn’t after me he was after you. He aimed the gun at you so I told you to run, you did, and do you know what happened after that?" Tails was silent. "I GOT KILLED!!!" "You ran away, so in order to stop me from protecting you, while I was looking to see you were okay he shot me right here." He gestured towards his forehead "now....", he said loading his gun. "It’s payback time." He aimed the gun at the fox’s head.

Unpleasant Reunion Part Three: Operation DISAPPEAR
"Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!" The young fox screamed. He then quickly calmed down. ‘It was just a dream, but it seemed so real’ he thought. Sonic was there in an instant. It was still nighttime. His eyes red as if he hadn’t slept for days, he probably didn’t. "Tails what’s wrong!" He said in an alert tone. The young Freedom Fighter started to cry. "It’s all my fault, IT’S ALL MY FAULT!" "What’s all your fault?" The blue-furred speedster asked. "Knuckles is dead", he replied. "It’s not your fault, and why would it be? You’re only 13 years old ", Sonic said in a concerned voice. "Then whose fault is it!" Tails replied "If I had cared about him and not chickened out then he wouldn’t have died." "And who told you that?", the hedgehog asked as he raised a brow. "He did", Tails answered. "Knuckles?", he asked. The two-tailed youngster nodded. "Why would he..." The comm sprang to life. "Sonic, Tails and Amy come in, Sonic, Tails and Amy come in", the comm said. "What is it Geoffrey." Sonic said to it in an irritated voice. "Apparently there have been citizens disappearing in the Knothole area. I would recommend looking in the most isolated place." "The forest?" Sonic asked. "Bingo", Geoffrey said. "Now get Tails and Amy and check it out", Geoffrey said the comm went off. "Amy", Sonic said quietly. "Oh no I haven’t seen her all day!" Sonic said as he ran out. Tails rushed out of bed and put his socks and sneakers on. They entered her room and gasped at what they saw. The window was broken and the covers were over the floor proving there was a struggle.
Amy had been kidnapped!
Unpleasant Reunion Part Four: Final Request
They had been searching for hours, they had found all the victims except Amy. Most had told the same story, there was a rustle in the leaves and then they were knocked unconscious. One tourist proclaimed he saw one of his own kind dressed in an unusual way. Tails instantly knew who was. Knuckles was back. Sonic believed also, he had fought him before and he wasn’t afraid to again. But with his new "equipment" it was going to be much tougher. They walked slowly through the woods, ready to fight. "Were not getting anywhere like this, let’s split up, I’ll go this way", Sonic whispered pointing to the left." "You that way", Sonic whispered pointing forward. Tails nodded. Tails didn’t go half a step when he heard a gunshot, he slowly turned around and gasped.

Sonic lied there motionless on the ground blood, staining the earth below him. "Sonic, no you can’t do this to me, wake up", shaking him he started to cry. The hedgehog didn’t respond. He got up. "How could you do this, HOW COULD YOU DO THIS!" Tails yelled. "Poor Sonic, he was fast, but I guess he just wasn’t fast enough", a voice said. Tails saw the creature and then said. "You’re not Knuckles", he said pointing an accusing finger at the echidna standing before him "You’re a murderer, YOU’VE KILLED EVERYONE!!!" "Not everyone", Knuckles said with an evil smile. He then yanked Amy out in the open. Tails gasped. "What about her?" Knuckles asked. "You give her back" Tails said as he clenched his fist. Knuckles knocked her on the ground unconscious, she let out a small yelp. "Fine, I’ll give her back if you fight me for her", Knuckles said "Deal", Tails said quickly. The echidna shot at a tree narrowly missing the fox’s head. "Okay....", he said twirling the pistol expertly. "Let’s go".

The battle exploded, both opponents were evenly matched at the beginning. Knuckles rapidly fired at the fox with a single gun. He dodged the bullets at incredible speed that would have made Sonic proud. Suddenly the fox punched Knuckles square in the face. Knuckles fell backwards. He got off the ground and wiped the blood off his chin. "No more Mr. Nice guy", he said. As soon as Tails attempted to try it again Knuckles knocked him into a tree. Tails hissed in pain as his skull slammed him into the tree behind him. He tried to get up, but his arms didn’t respond. He looked up to see his former friend stand in front of him with a gun aimed at his head. "Knuckles, I know you can hear me, stop this", Tails said "Shut up", Knuckles replied in a stern voice. "I know you don’t want to do this", Tails said. "Shut up", the echidna said again. "There are people out there that still care about you, your mother, your father", he said, with his voice full off concern. "SHUT UP!!" Knuckles yelled. He dropped the gun desperately trying to close his ears with his hands. "I know I don’t speak for all the people in this world, but I’m your friend." The echidna clenched his teeth. "But if you need to do this, then shoot", Tails said as he lowered his head. Tails’ friend of ancient ancestry let out a pain filled scream and collapsed. Tails’ plan worked, but he was now afraid he had killed Knuckles. The presumed dead being got up and stared at his hands, stunned. "You’re back", Tails said with a smile. Somehow he was able to get up and confront his newly returned friend. He didn’t respond he just stared at his hands walking backwards. Then he finally said something. "What have I done, what have I done." Tails frowned. "I killed him, I killed Sonic without even thinking twice", Knuckles said as a tear dropped from his eye, destroying his "macho man" appearance. He took the pistol out of its holster and put it against his head. "What are you doing?", Tails asked afraid of what he might do next. "I have to do this, if I do this for the good of all people then I’ll never come back", Knuckles said calmly. "Don’t", Tails said terrified. "Tell everyone...I’m sorry", Knuckles said as he fired, his body falling in the direction the bullet went, he fell to the ground. "NO!!!!!!" Tails screamed.

Amy got up and rubbed her sore head. She walked around and then gasped at what she saw. She ran through the woods until she confronted Tails facing the opposite direction, his head hung low. "Tails", she said scared. He turned around, his eyes red as his echidna friend. "Oh, Tails", Amy said as she ran to hug him.

Unpleasant Reunion Part Five: Impossible Truths
Tails woke up the next day, not in the woods but in his bed. He got up and opened his eyes Sonic walked in the room. Tails’ eyes widened. Sonic just smiled shyly. He jumped out of bed and hugged Sonic as hard as he could. "Oh, Sonic I thought you were dead", Tails said as he buried his face in Sonic’s chest "It’s okay", Sonic said in a comforting voice. "Alright, alright enough with the mushy stuff", Tails heard a voice say. He turned to see another familiar face chugging down his favorite food, grapes. Tails ran toward him "Whoa, whoa, whoa there little man" Knuckles said as he put his hands in front of Tails. Tails frowned. Knuckles put the grapes he had back in the almost empty bowl. "Okay, gimmie the best ya got", he said with a smile. Tails jumped and knocked Knuckles over with his enormous hug. All three laughed with joy. Tails got and then said, "But how?", he asked. Sonic and Knuckles frowned and walked over to him. "APRIL FOOLS!!!" The two burst out laughing. Tails put on an angry face, then smiled. "I’m going to get you two!" They both ran as Tails chased them around. They then stopped, worn out after running for awhile. "How did you do the whole double thing Knuckles?" "I helped", a former guardian walked toward them. "Locke?" Tails questioned. "I do look like my son without my beard, and Lara loves it." He grinned. "Hey I helped too!" They turned to see the pink hedgehog in her pajamas. "Oooooo I’m going to get you for ignoring me", she said with an angry face and ran after them. "Uh-oh", they all said in unison. Then they ran off into the sunset. "Guys, I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship", Tails commented. Sonic hit him in the head. "Ouch! What did you do that for!" Tails said as he rubbed his head. "We’re already friends knucklehead!" Sonic replied. "She’s still chasing us!" Knuckles said frightened. "Oooooo I’m going to get you even if it takes all day!" Amy said running after them.
