TEEN SPIRIT
By JaxsonJaguar

Deep in the middle of a swamp in the southeastern region of the Great Continent, lies a village well hidden by a canopy of cyprus trees. The name of this village is Cyprus Knee, the center of operations for the area Freedom Fighters. The leader of this group is a jaguar named Jaxson. He and the rest of the local Freedom Fighters struggle to regain control of their city from their former king who was turned into a subboss by the now late Dr. Ivo Robotnick. Now you are probably guessing that this will be another adventure of a F. F. group. Well, you're wrong. You see these guys are also teenagers and every chance they get they try to act like normal teens. Hard to believe well read on and maybe you'll get a new feel for Freedom Fighters.

It's a hot day in the swamp so the populaces of the Freedom Fighter village, Cyprus Knee, drop every thing, seek shade, and try to cool off. On the edge of a spring near the outskirts of the village the main fighters of the village were all down and out in lounge chairs. They all want to dive into the cool crisp water but they are so hot and tired their tails can barely move. Suddenly one decided to speak up. "Guys we got to do something other than sitting here doing nothing." Said a young jaguar named Donavan. "SHUT UP DON." Said the rest of the group to the 11-year-old jaguar. "Come-on guys there must be something we can do. Donavan, a word of advice. When you have free time savor it." Said Donavans cousin Jaxson. "Well how about some music? Now that we can do. Hey Kevin, you got your boombox? Right here Jax. Well what are you waiting for CRANK IT UP.

Now on Mobius there is only one up and running radio station and it's located it the city of Mobotropolis. The station is KFFR, which stands for Freedom Fighter Radio. "This is KFFR coming to you F. F. groups still out there from now beautiful Mobotropolis. Coming up in the next hour we got music from Savage Orchid, Matchbox 10, Mariah Canary and more. Well we're set for the next hour." Said Zach "Yeah, hey Donavan. What? Last one in the water does dishes. Oh no you don't Jax." The two jaguars ran toward the spring and dived into the nearly ice cold water.

After a while the rest of the group jumped in Kathryn, Stacie, Zach, Kevin, and an alligator named Albert. The entire group was having a good time until a middle-aged opossum wearing a red cloak walked to up to the bank of the spring. "Master Sullivan, what brings you here?" Said Zach slightly nervous. I just wanted to see if you kids were having a good time. After all these years you still call us kids." Said Jaxson as he was coming out of the water. "Well Jaxson you're not eighteen yet. So, you here to interfere with our having an opportunity to take a brake from it all. Jaxson, you of all these villagers should know that the only time a brake can be taken is when we don't have to worry about Edwin. That's just paranoid man. We can't just every day assume Ed is going to make an attack. I mean hey, just because we are still Freedom Fighters does not mean we can't still be teenagers. That's right. You see if went around acting and thinking like you we'd all end up uptight stiffs like you. Thanks for backing me up on that Al. No problem." The look on Sullivan's face had a look of discouragement. He knew everything that was said to him was true and without a signal word he turned and walked away.

"Jaxson. Yes princess? May I talk with you in private? Sure." The two walked away from the rest of the group to talk. Stacie was obviously a bit angry with Jax. "So what's on your mind? Why were you like that with Sullivan? Like what? Like a complete jerk. Stacie you know him and me are not on the same wavelength. That's no reason to be that way. Stacie, you of all people should know that back before I became the leader of this group he always found fault in what I did. I remember one time I saved his life and he never thanked me. All he could do was put me down. Okay I understand now but please try to control yourself. I'll try. Good." With that said Stacie went off to her hut and Jaxson went off to be with his friends who were on the deck of the café.

"What?" Said Jaxson as he noticed all his friends staring at him. "Oh nothing." Said Kevin. "It's just that if you hate Sullivan that much I is he still here? You know I just can't through him out." Jaxson said as he pulled up a chair to the table his friends were at. "Well I think it will just take some time before he finally understands you. As usual Kathryn you're right, but it's been nine years. How much longer will it take? Who knows? Are we going to eat something or are we just going to sit here?" Asked Albert

After having a light meal the six were playing basketball on a court made of smooth lime rock. "Al Alligator has the ball he, turns, shakes the defender, drives up the middle... OH BEAUTIFUL LAY-UP BY THE GATOR. Al, you really like to make a spectacle of yourself don't you." Said Zach "You just jealous cause you ain't got any skill. Will you both shut-up lets get it on." Said Jaxson. Oh, and in case you're wonder teams are, Jaxson, Donavan, and Zach, and Al, Kathryn, and Kevin. Jaxson didn't get first pick. Jaxsons team had the ball. Don caught the in bound pass and dribbled halfway down the court before passing to Jaxson who shook Kathryn and passed to Zach who took the ball to the base line. Gave his best jumper and..."OH, IN YOUR EYE GATOR. THAT'S THREE POINTS. WE WIN. WHO'S THE MAN? All right, all right you do have some skill. So let's leave it at that. Oh no, I'm going to rub this in like spot removal on a stain ha ha." "And you know he will." Said Jaxson "Yeah, hey has anyone seen my sister? Not since she and Jaxson had that fight." Said Kathryn "So now you wonder about me." Said Stacie as every body turned around. "So there are sis. What have you been doing? Well if you should know I've been thinking about what Jax said about Sullivan. Sis are you all right? Zach, I'm fine it's just that even though Sullivan has been kind of a father figure to you and me, we never really thought about his actions to others. What are you talking about I am and was Jaxson best friend. I knew how he treated him. That's right, he even once helped me stand up to him. It didn't work but we tried. I know Jax, but I guess he expects you to be more like your father maybe even better. Well my dad wasn't perfect, but he did do things differently. But Sullivan should know that I'm not my father and I will do things different."

With that the team broke up once more. Jaxson sent Donavan back to their hut as he and Kathryn went to one of the lookout trees. When the two jaguars got to the top Kathryn automatically knew something was on her boyfriends' mind. "What's up? Nothing. Jax, you know I can see right through you. Now what's wrong? Stacie's right. Bout what? Sullivan expecting me to be more like or better than my father. How? He knew my father well so he knows what to expect. Why can't he just see you for who you are? I mean none of us end up like our parents. You're right you know. I always am. Now watch your self Paw. Oh, what are you going to do about it Jaguar? This..." He said as he kissed her on the lips. But the moment was short lived as Al was shouting at them from the ground.

"HEY YOU TWO GET DOWN HERE WE NEED YOUR HELP. IN A SECOND." Yelled Kathryn. "WHAT DO YOU NEED AL? COME DOWN HERE AND I'LL TELL YOU, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT." With that Jaxson and Kathryn climbed down to see what their friend was talking about. "So again, what is it you need to tell us? Well me and the others were thinking wouldn't it be cool if we had a BAR-B-Q. Sounds great but what do you need us for? Well, a majority of the village said we had to set up the entire thing. Another thing is that the people want you to D. J. Man, you got jibed. Yeah I know. I tell you what. I play the music and you can do the remixes. Thanks man. C-ya in a while. You too man."

Jaxson and Kathryn met the rest of their friends who were already setting up tables, chairs, citronella torches, and all else. Jaxson set up the C. D. players and was looking through his C. Ds. to decide which ones to use while Al setting up and testing his turntables. D. J. (the rabbit) and Zach were stuck carrying the grills. "You know Stacie, It wouldn't kill you to help with these things. Hey we all drew straws and you two got the small ones. So stop gripping and get back to work. We have got to stop using straws. You D. J. your right, next time we figure out these things the old fashion way, with hot potato.

As every body was getting ready for a good time and was in a good mood. Guess who stepped up to the D. J. stand. "What do you want Sullivan?" Said Jaxson with a sigh. "Oh, nothing I just wanted to see how things were going. Sure you did." Said AL sarcastically. "No really I might even participate...In crashing" Interrupted Jaxson "I'm going to ignore that remark and say this just don't get out of control. Yeah, whatever." Said Al as Sullivan walked off.

As the sun set over the swamp the inhabitants of Cyprus Knee were getting ready for the BAR-B-Q. There was nothing really special about this little get together they just wanted to do. The village chefs were cooking the food on the grills. Some people were playing games like horseshoes, flag football, and even Frisbee toss. While others were escaping the heat by plunging them selves in the spring. Jaxson and Al were putting the finishing touches on their stand. Kevin was setting up the lights. Zach, D. J., and Nick had to help serve food while Kathryn and Stacie worked crowd control. The only one that wasn't working was Donavan who was playing flag football with some of the other young residence of Cypruss Knee. "You know it's funny." Said Kathryn to Stacie. "How's that? Well think about it, if we had been in school or something like that we would be doing homework right now instead of attending a BAR-B-Q. Girl, you got a point, but honestly I'd rather be going to school then fighting to get my city back. That's true, I guess it's like they say reality bytes. Now that's the truth." Stacie said with a light laugh.

Back on the D. J. stand Jaxson and Al had just finished setting up and were ready to jam. "Everybody having a good time?" Asked Jaxson into his microphone. "YEAH!" Roared the crowd. "Alright, I'm Jax on the hits and this is Al-G on the mix. Lets kick off the evening with a remix by Al-G of the hit "When the Lights Go On" by the group Six. Al put on the required records and C. Ds. and started to mix like crazy. He excellently mixed the song which if the party was in doors it would be rocking. It was a common mix with the normal base line and repeating lyrics, but hey no one complained.

Time past, and the crowd was getting smaller and smaller. "Okay last song of the evening couples only." Said Jaxson as he picked out the song for the last dance. "The song will be "I Wouldn't Want to Miss a Thang" by the band BlackSmith." Jaxson put the C. D. player on auto stop and went over to Kathryn. "You know I've seen you standing here all night and I was wondering if you would like to dance? Why Jaxson, I thought you'd never ask." The two jaguars stepped out on the dance floor and held each other close and danced as the song just started playing. At the other end of the dance floor Kevin was slowly and timidly walking up to Stacie. "Hi Stacie. Hi Kevin, what's up? I was wondering if you wanted to dance? Excuse me? I mean it; do you want to dance? Sure, why not?" As the two stepped out on the dance floor Jaxson couldn't help but stare. "Well, will you look at that? Who would have thought? What? Kevin and Stacie together. Let me see?" Jaxson spun Kathryn around so she could get a look. "Your right, who would have thought?"

The last song ended, the villagers went off to their huts, every thing was put away, and Jaxson carried Donavan back to their hut to put him to bed. The reaming Freedom Fighters decided to stay out that night. They had a small campfire going and were all wearing T-shirts. "You know it's strange that it can get so hot during the day then drop fifteen degrees as soon as the sun goes down." Said Zach "Well it must be the swamp air." Replied D. J.

Just then Jaxson joined the group sitting on a log next to Kathryn. "So can we party or can we party." Said Jaxson "Yeah." Agreed the others. "And how bout Kevin and Stacie getting out on the dance floor." Said Kathryn "Hey, he was the only one who asked. And she was the only one who accepted. Sure." Jaxson said sarcastically. "Yeah, you both know you wanted each other." Said Nick. "All right that's enough messing with my sister and her new boy friend." Zach said breaking out in laughter. "Ho, you air so dead bro. Allright, alright that's enough you two." Jaxson said as tried to control not only him from laughing but also the two fighting siblings. "Okay now that we're all calmed down anybody want marshmallows?" Asked Jaxson passing around the bag. "Hey Jax, remember when our parents used to bring us out here for camping? Yeah, Zach but that was a long time ago. Yeah it was." Added Al. "You know I can still remember trying to eaves drop on the adults after they sent us to bed." Said Stacie. "Those were the days." Said Jaxson as he pulled his flaming marshmallw from the fire, ate it, laid back and said..."You know it's rare you get days like this these days. Ain't that the truth" Agreed D. J. "Yeah, you should always try to hold on to every moment you can. Because you don't know what you got till it's gone." Added Kathryn. The rest of the group agreed and decided to call it a night. Kevin put out the fire and joined the others on the ground staring at the stars slowly drifting off to sleep for with the coming of a new day meant back to business as usual for the group.

"JAXSON, JAXSON WAKE UP. What? Robert, calm down what's up?" Asked Jaxson rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "I need you to come see something very important. This better be good. Trust me it is something you want to see." Robert led the groggy jaguar to the village weather lab. "So what do you want to show me?" The crane didn't say anything just pointed to the weather radar. "Well, well that tropical depression became a hurricane. Yes and it's headed our way. You sure? Just look at the projected path. It will be here in a week. By that time it should strengthen into a category three hurricane."

TO BE CONTINUED...

Well it seems they got a problem on their hands. Will this hurricane be helpful in a sense of crippling Edwin's defenses or will it also cause extensive damage to Cyprus Knee as well. You'll have to wait for the next fanfic entitled Hurricane Warning. That fanfic will be a prologue to a four part mini series simply called Hurricane. But first I'm going to put up a Profile of all the characters in my fanfics; it should be very informative. One more thing, if any reader has comments or suggestions on my fanfics please e-mail me at jaxjag99@geocities.com. I should have a Webster up soon at geocities.com/telivisioncity/stage/7032. Well see you next time.

P.S. Look for a certain blue hedgehog to guest star in the Hurricane mini series.
