The Wynmacher Dilemma
Whether you're a lurker or a regular poster at Ken Penders' message board, you're probably no stranger to the bashing of Wynmacher.
I'm a very opinionated person, however I rarely express my opinions so freely, because it seems as if there is always someone there to push them
away, not even giving them the slightest moment of consideration. This on the other hand, must be said. I'm fed up with this idiocy, and quite
frankly, I'm a little pissed off. (And believe me, you don't want to deal with me when I'm pissed off. In fact, I had to tone down my language quite a bit so this would be suitable for posting.)
Sure, Wyn may have his quirks, but I have them, you, the reader have them, and that's just exactly what makes everyone so different. People don't like the way he dresses, or the fact that he can cook a decent meal. Is it that you "bashers" are stuck with an old-fashioned belief that cooking is the woman's job? That's nonsense, check out the Food Network on your cable or satellite dish sometime and look at all of the men on the network's programming.
So why are people so indignant, blaming Wyn? Why do they hate him so vehemently? It can't be for such superficial issues such as that, can it?
It almost makes my stomach turn to think that people can be so prejudiced against a comic book character. Against someone that isn't supposed to spark such controversy, but instead, end the question in the reader's minds about if Locke and Lara-Le will ever reconcile their relationship.
Statistics don't lie; according to the United States Census in 1997, about 42% of all marriages end in divorce. That figure is slightly outdated, and common knowledge would show that the divorce rate is only increasing. That's a sad fact, but it is just that- a fact. It seems that today's advancements in society give way to advancements in personal strengths as well. By getting a divorce, Lara-Le freed herself from a life of unhappiness and a spouse she no longer loved. I say, good for her. People should be relieved that she didn't become an unhappy widow, living alone with seven cats to keep her company.
I think that many people feel betrayed by Lara-Le divorcing Locke and marrying Wyn. They also think that Wyn is in essence trying to steal Knuckles' mother away from him. This is a common feeling with divorce. Although certain morals and religious beliefs people may have will hold wedding vows "till death do us part," the question remains: did Lara-Le have probable cause to divorce Locke?
In my opinion, yes. Divorce is indeed a very serious issue, but so is marriage. Knuckles' was denied a normal childhood, for a rationale some of us might not quite understand. Some say that nothing could be worse than growing up in a broken home, however I differ. Growing up in a loveless environment is a far worse fate for human or echidna alike to grow up in.
I think the entire storyline should be lauded for its efforts and subject matter for dealing with such sensitive topics on a more mature level. Instead it, and Wyn have been scorned for petty reasoning such as "Wyn's a jerk," "The stupid guardian rule," or "Lara-Le can do a lot better than someone like Wyn." In fact, I can't say that I've seen anything more than drivel and psychobabble when people insist on talking down about Wynmacher.
But this is only one simple person's opinion. It doesn't count for anything right? Sweep it under the rug because my views don't reflect anyone else's but my own right? I sure hope not. I also hope that the majority of you Wyn bashers will see the light, or at least come up with a better reasoning of why you hate the guy so much. And to all those Wyn supporters out there, I thank you all for your perseverance.
So it is written, so it shall come to pass.
