CLASH OF THE TITANS

Sally calls Sonic to Knothole Control because their spy cameras have picked up Knuckles walking along the outer edge of the Great Forest, near Robotropolis. Sonic thinks Knuckles is going to cut a deal with Robotnik and runs off, while Sally tells him to talk to Knuckles. But even she admits, that's not going to happen.

Meanwhile, through a flashback, we find out that Knuckles is looking for the Lake of Rings because he wants a spare chaos emerald and legend says that power rings are a by-product of chaos emeralds. He finds a lake and decides to check it out when someone punches him from behind.

Knuckles turns to see Sonic, who decides that now he's going to read the peace letter to Knuckles. Knuckles doesn't care about peace anymore and a fight breaks out. Sally comes and stops the fight because "when the landscape starts to suffer, I step in!" The tree, which had been uprooted during their fight, covered a gateway to a zone. Knuckles goes straight into the zone. Sally tells Sonic to follow him, and says "he hasn't changed since we used to spend summers together!" Sonic asks Sally what does she mean, and she tells him that it's none of his business and to follow Knuckles.

In the zone, Sonic realizes that Knuckles is going to get more emeralds and rings that him if he doesn't do something quick. Sonic runs over Knuckles and grabs 50 power rings and 7 chaos emeralds and becomes Super Sonic. While, he tells Knuckles to surrender, Knuckles grabs the remaining rings he needs. Then with 50 power rings and 7 chaos emeralds, Knuckles turns into Hyper Knuckles. Super Sonic versus Hyper Knuckles begins. After fighting for awhile, they charge each other at "incalculable speed" and cause the zone to collapse, ejecting Sonic and Knuckles.

Sonic wakes up to see Sally waiting. Sally tells Sonic that all the rings and emeralds were obliterated with the zone. Sonic and Sally ride back to Knothole on her sky-cycle. Meanwhile, Knuckles glides onto the Floating Island and meets Mighty, who he left in charge in his absense. Knuckles reveals that he was successful in his quest, because Knuckles managed to keep one chaos emerald from the zone.

A young Knuckles is being shown around the Floating Island and learning about the Chaos Emerald and its importance. Our Knuckles realizes that the words of Archimedes sound like his father who expected him to use his head and think. Knuckles tells us of the day he went to the Forbidden Zone with his father and his father leaped into a wall of energy and disapppeared. The young Knuckles watched and stood his ground like his father told him to. Our Knuckles admits he's made some mistakes, like letting Robotnik sucker him and that he let his pride get in the way when he rejected the idea of making a team out of the Chaotix. Knuckles remembers that his own father told him he couldn't teach Knuckles everything. Knuckles figures that Archimedes probably has some answers to the questions he has and resolves to find them for his dad and the Chaotix.
