Sonic, Sally, Tails, Antoine, Bunnie, Rotor, and Dulcy are heading to the Floating Island because Rotor told them that Knuckles called saying that he found the Sword of Acorns, but he's keeping it because the island is under attack. When they land, they search the island, but can't find anyone or any signs of a fight. Then, the Chaotix appear and tell the Freedom Fighters that Knuckles told them to get lost and that he's keeping the sword because the sword's power helped defeat the invaders. A fight breaks out and the Chaotix are losing, but a fog is created around the Chaotix and Mighty says that the power of the nearby Archimedes is helping them escape. Sally says that this is not like Knuckles, to which Sonic disagrees. But Sally also says that they aren't leaving without the sword.

Elsewhere, Knuckles and the Chaotix are talking about the Freedom Fighters. According to Knuckles, when he called Knothole, Sonic said that Knuckles took too long to get the sword and that he and the Freedom Fighters are going to beat up Knuckles and the Chaotix. Suddenly, Sonic, Sally, Tails, and Bunnie appear and start fighting Knuckles and the Chaotix. Knuckles and the Chaotix win easily, but the four Freedom Fighters escape and say that they'll have reinforcements next time. Archimedes appears and tells Knuckles, "Things aren't what they seem!" However, the conversation ends as Sonic, Sally, Tails, Rotor, Antoine, Bunnie, and Dulcy come from out of the bushes and are looking to fight.

Sally tries to stop the Freedom Fighters, but they don't listen. Archimedes teleports away from Knuckles because Knuckles and Sonic are about to square off along with the rest of the Chaotix and Freedom Fighters: Rotor vs. Vector, Antoine & Bunnie vs. Mighty, Tails vs. Espio, and Dulcy vs. Charmy. Sally and Archimedes think something is wrong here. Archimedes and Dulcy both shoot out bursts of fire that seemily obliterate everyone.

Claiming victory, Mammoth Mogul, who's holding the sword, and his Fearsome Foursome (Sgt. Simian, Predator Hawk, Lightning Lynx, & Flying Frog) come out from their hiding places. Mammoth Mogul tells his "elite guard" that by having them impersonate the Chaotix & Freedom Fighters and tricking Rotor & Knuckles, he was able to have his enemies fight amongst each other while gets what he wants unopposed. However, that dream ends when Knuckles, Sonic, the Chaotix, and the Freedom Fighters appear. After, beating up the Fearsome Foursome, the Freedom Fighters and the Chaotix explain to Mogul how they saw through his plan (actually, only Sally and Archimedes saw through it). Mammoth Mogul uses the sword to augment his power of one chaos emerald and fights everyone, however, Archimedes reappears with the island's chaos emerald which cause Mogul's emerald to explode. Mogul is gone, but the sword is left behind. Knuckles gives Sally the sword, and Sally knights Knuckles. "You are this island's Guardian, but when in Knothole, you are now and forevermore...Sir Knuckles!"

The Freedom Fighters return to Knothole. Once they are there, Rosie calls Sally to a hut where Sally sees her father is healthy once more.

Elsewhere, Mammoth Mogul is gloating because he knew that they would see through his ruse and left them a fake sword. He has the real Sword of Acorns.
