SONIC ADVENTURE, Part 10: DOOR TO THE PAST

A little glowing ball goes into Knuckles' head and he starts seeing colors flashing. Finally he sees a female echidna who introduces herself as Tikal. Knuckles basically says that it'll take more than just being an echidna for him to trust her so she starts telling him a story:

A long time ago, echidnas left Albion and settled in a place called "Mysterious Cat Country." The native cats and the echidnas ended up fighting each other. The warrior caste called the "Knuckles Clan" decided to stay and defend their new home, but the scientists left (and ended up in Downunda creating Echidnaopolis & that's history). Her father, Pachacamac, was upset at the scientists since they needed the warriors to leave Albion in the first place. One day they found the Mystic Ruins and discovered cute creatures called the Chao. Since the cats were going to attack again, Tikal was ordered to stay at the ruins while her father and the other echidnas went to battle. Tikal became friends with the Chao and Chaos who was with them. However, the echidnas were losing their fight with the cats and the only thing that could save them were the seven emeralds that belonged to the Chao, who didn't want to be involved in the war. Tikal begged them not to go after the emeralds, but her father wouldn't listen. Chaos appeared and blocked their path to the emerald. Chaos scared and then destroyed them.

Tikal comes out of Knuckles' head and he wants to know how she became a glowing ball. She says that Chaos became corrupt and that she along with the Chao discovered his weakness and imprisoned him in the black emerald. Tikal starts to go off and Knuckles follows her.

Meanwhile, Robotnik is upset with his E-Series Droids because so far none of them have brought back "the frog with the chaos tail." Then he sees E-102 Gamma has brought back Froggy and congratulates Gamma (Robotnik then destroys the rest of the E-Series 'bots, though that's shown in the Gamma solo after this story). Robotnik puts Froggy and Chaos in his "Matter/Energy Transmuter" which sends Froggy's DNA and chaos energy into Chaos (who finally looks like Chaos instead of an oversized amoeba or something). Robotnik tells Chaos to go find some more emeralds so that Chaos can eliminate some of Robotnik's enemies.

Meanwhile, the Queen tells Mighty, Vector, Julie-Su, and Espio that they have to convince her that they aren't a threat. However, Vector decides to be a bit rude instead. The Queen tells them to watch their mouths since they eat their own kids if they get out of line. Then literally out of nowhere, Locke appears and tells the Queen to back-off unless she wants another war (the Chaotix sub-plot continues in Sonic #84).
