Knuckles is in the Chaos Chamber and thinking about why is it his purpose to guard the Master Emerald (ME) and how lonely it is. His thoughts are interrupted as he notices something near the ME. The creature seems to mean no harm, but it's absorbing the ME's powers. Knuckles tries to stop it, but he goes right through it. The ME's powers are gone and despite the efforts of the Brotherhood, the Floating Island falls into the sea. Then, Knuckles wakes up with a shout. He wonders why he keeps having this nightmare all the time. However, as he walks out his hut, Knuckles finds that the Floating Island isn't in the sky, but on top of the water. He takes off for Haven figuring that his dad would know what happened.

Meanwhile, gloating in Robotropolis is Robotnik Mach 2 (RM2). He tells us that he discovered info that Robotnik overlooked about some awesome being known as Perfect Chaos. RM2 went to Cat Country to find the black emerald that Perfect Chaos was supposed to be in. After finding and shattering the black emerald, a pathetic creature appeared, but it lead RM2 to a diagram which showed that the creature need chaos emeralds to become "perfect." RM2 headed for the Floating Island with a huge invasion force. He was surprised to see Echidnaopolis and to encounter resistance from Remington and the EST, but he still got to the Chaos Chamber. RM2 shattered the ME and took all the shards he needed and left. The Floating Island fell to the sea and unknown to RM2 or anyone else, Mammoth Mogul is now free.
