In Knothole, Sonic tells Sally, Rotor, Bunnie, and Antoine that they should let Robotnik roboticize him while using one of Rotor's neuro-overriders so that his mind will still be free. Then with the robot body, he would be able to do trash Robotnik and Robotropolis for good. The plan is rejected and Sonic storms off angrily. Sonic runs to the new Freedom Fighters Training Facility where a heavy bar bell is dropped on his head by Nack the Weasel. Nack takes the unconscious Sonic to Robotnik. Nack disses Robotnik and Robotnik has Crabmeat toss Nack out of Robotropolis. Robotnik proceeds to roboticize Sonic and create Mecha-Sonic. Robotnik then orders Mecha-Sonic to go to Knothole Village and "level it!"

At the outskirts of Knothole, Sally, Rotor, and Antoine are checking out Nicole's readings that Sonic has been roboticized. They think that Sonic disobeyed the council's order, but they don't get to dwell on it as Mecha-Sonic fires at them. Nicole creates multiple images of them to confuse Mecha-Sonic while Sally contacts Bunnie. Bunnie comes and starts to fight Mecha-Sonic and the fight is a standstill, but they know that won't last. Sally contacts Tails, who relays a mayday message that is acknowledged.

In Robotropolis, Robotnik is watching Bunnie fight Mecha-Sonic and creates remote power booster that sends an electric charge from Mecha-Sonic into Bunnie. Bunnie falls to the ground, but gets back up. However, her pulse cannon shot only rocked Mecha-Sonic, while Mecha-Sonic's energy blast causes Bunnie to crash to the ground. Bunnie is down and out.

In Knothole, the person who acknowledged the distress call is Knuckles the Echidna and he takes a shot at Mecha-Sonic. However, Mecha-Sonic takes out Knuckles just as easily as he took out Bunnie. Sally says that they only have one choice left and that's to "initiate 'Operation Last Resort'!" Rotor responds by saying "you wouldn't...you couldn't order us to do that...would you?"
