Knuckles is back in time to when Edmund and Dimitri were presenting the Chaos Syphon to restore the Floating Island. Just as the magistrate is about to give his ruling, Knuckles speaks over his voice agreeing to the plan. So Dimitri and Edmund use the Chaos Syphon, but just as they've almost completely lowered the Floating Island back to Downunda, the descent velocity increases and the entire island is destoyed. Knuckles feels himself being ripped apart and tells himself to keep it together.

A moment later he's back in the present. Dimitri tells him to stop before they all end up paying for Knux' "stubbornness" to which Knuckles says "talk about the pot calling the kettle black." Since Knuckles said that Dimitri/Edmund's plan backfired, then Dimitri figured that in each case so far that Knuckles somehow "stopped the process before events became irreversible." But in the previous two cases, 1) nature and 2) some miscalculation that Dimitri isn't aware of were the causes of the undesired results. So the only point that might result is to go back in time and save Edmund.

Knuckles goes back in time and knocks out the two Legionnaires that killed Edmund from behind. However, right after he does that, he starts to turn into a robot.

Knuckles makes it back to the present and nothing's changed. Dimitri explains that they were all roboticized under Robotnik since by saving Edmund the echidna's need for the Guardians and the Brotherhood disappeared and the Floating Island was susceptible to outside invasions. Knuckles is mad because he has all this power but can't do anything good with it. Dimitri says maybe not in the past, but maybe in the future since they don't know if he can undo the effects of the quantum beam yet.
