Enerjak rejoins the Dark Legion (DL) in the desert and tells everyone that Knuckles is a distant memory to everyone's delight in the DL, except Julie-Su. Enerjak is to be called "Lord Enerjak," from now on by the DL, and he creates a golden bridge that leads to Echidnaopolis. The attack commences now. Watching the DL leave, are Vector, Espio, and Mighty, who are tied up in the desert (actually, Mighty is chained because of his strength). The heat is starting to bother them though. In the meantime, the Ancient Walkers have put Knuckles back together. Athair is also present and tells Knuckles that the Ancient Walkers saved him because he's "an agent for restoring balance." The Ancient Walkers teleport Knuckles into the desert where he finds Mighty, Espio, and Vector.
In Echidnaopolis, Remington tells his troops to hide around the golden bridge, but he knows he needs more troops. Remington gets a mysterious call, which tells him how to get more troops, but he's not thrilled with the idea. Stryker, meanwhile, is yelling at his troops, when Remington walks in asking for Stryker's help. Stryker asks Remington why should the dingoes help him. Remington responds that if he loses this fight, the dingoes could end up in a worse position than they're in now.
In the desert, Knuckles uses the sledgehammer to free Mighty and then unties Espio, while Mighty frees Vector, who's complaining. Knuckles finds a canteen of water, which Vector drinks up. Knuckles also gets a telepathic jolt from Archimedes and digs in the sand until he finds the box where Archimedes, Deo Volente, and Charmy were trapped in.
Meanwhile, the DL has reached Echidnaopolis and are prepared for Remington's troops. However, the DL is taken by surprise by Stryker's troops helping out on the rooftops of buildings. It doesn't matter because Enerjak uses his chaotic powers to shut down the weaponry of Remington, Stryker, and their troops. Suddenly, in the middle of his surrender or else speech, Enerjak vanishes. Julie-Su, who's driving Kragok's boogie, uses the opportunity to crash the boogie into Remington's troops with Kragok in it. She jumps out before the crash.
At the same moment, Enerjak realizes that he's no longer with the DL and is above Echidnaopolis with Mammoth Mogul. Enerjak considers Mogul a new lackey, but Mogul takes out the Sword of Acorns and drains Enerjak's powers into him until Enerjak is no more, and there's only Dimitri. Dimitri ages instantly and falls from the sky. Before he can hit the pavement, Dimitri is saved by Knuckles, who along with the Chaotix have reached Echidnaopolis because of Archimedes teleportation ability. The DL want Dimitri though, and start a full-fledged assault on Knuckles and the Chaotix.
In Haven, Locke and his father are watching, and Locke decides that Knuckles may need more help. So he calls the Freedom Fighters, but makes it seem that Knuckles is calling them. Meanwhile, the DL have gotten Dimitri and then run away as fast as possible. Remington comes up to Knuckles and the Chaotix and shows them their two prisoners, Kragok and Julie-Su. Knuckles isn't happy, but Remington takes them away. Moments later, Sonic and the Freedom Fighters arrive and tell Knuckles that they got his message. Knuckles doesn't know what they're talking about, but it doesn't matter as suddenly he, Sonic, and Tails disappear. In their place is Mammoth Mogul, who tells everyone, "Simply worship the ground I walk on--or plan on spending the rest of your days in eternal pain and solitude!"
