UNFAIR BALL

Tails is flying in the X-Tornado when the green chaos emerald starts reacting. Tails figures that there must be a chaos emerald in the area. Diamond Stadium happens to be where the X-Tornado seems to be reacting the most, so Tails decides to investigate the baseball park. On the grounds (which Tails thinks are beautiful), Tails meets Albert Butler (who was originally frightened of Tails), the groundskeeper for 30 years. It turns out that the stadium is due to be demolished, but more importantly, Butler is in possession of the cyan chaos emerald. When Tails holds out the green emerald, the two chaos emeralds react by shooting a bright beam of energy into the sky that can be seen miles away. Knuckles recognizes the light, but so does Decoe, who informs Eggman, who takes out a baseball as he begins concocting his latest scheme.

Meanwhile, at the Thorndyke residence, it's dinner time and Ella is quizzing Amy & Cream on proper dinner etiquette but Sonic isn't interested (note: in episode #7 everyone at Chris' home learned about Sonic & co. being real). Chuck wonders what is keeping Tails as Bokkun enters with a message from Eggman. Eggman lets Sonic know that he's discovered the location of a chaos emerald and challenges Sonic to a baseball game to decide who keeps it. Bokkun decides to give them all some practice by hitting a ton of balls at everyone, but Ella grabs Bokkun and tosses him out the mansion. With that, they all (except Ella) rush out to get to Diamond Stadium.

At the stadium, Tails is hoping no one noticed the light show when Eggman arrives. Eggman is disappointed that Sonic isn't there and decides to take the chaos emeralds. Eggman manages to get the cyan one Albert had with his machine hand. Before he can get the one that Tails has, Knuckles makes a timely entrance and destroys Eggman's machine hand. At this point, Sonic and everyone else arrives. Because Sonic and the others have arrived, Eggman decides to play baseball (and brings out his Ballios robots--no name given in the U.S. dub) instead of just trying to take the second emerald. Chuck is extremely pleased to play a game of baseball, while both Tails and Knuckles try to explain this is a bad idea for different reasons: Tails--the field is too nice to play on; Knuckles--if Eggman wins, bad things will happen. Albert says to Tails that it's okay because the stadium is being destroyed anyway. Amy & Cream start calling Knuckles "chicken" about playing the baseball game. Knuckles, being surrounded by everyone, gets annoyed and says that he'll play & be a team player, too.

The game starts as Chuck and Eggman are managers and Decoe is the umpire. Chris strikes out looking. Tails ends up being out due to the Ballios long arm style of pitching. Amy uses her hammer as a bat and seemingly hits a homerun (causing Knuckles to comment that perhaps they'll actually win), but one robot tosses another into the air and the ball is caught--so she's out. Switching to the bottom half of the inning, Amy is the pitcher but ends up destroying the first robot with her pitch (that's considered hit by a pitch). For the next batter she actually throws a strike, but the robot on first base steals second by stretching its legs and going over Tails. Another robot hits a homerun even though Sonic catches it outside the park as Sonic wonders why they have to play by the rules. Eventually switching again, Amy gets a hit by sending the ball right back to the pitcher and destroying the pitching robot. Knuckles follows her by hitting a homerun (and is real proud of himself too) to make the score 35-32 in favor of Eggman's team.

Scarlet Garcia, a news reporter who also saw the light show earlier, is now at the stadium and is broadcasting the baseball game between Eggman and Sonic & co. to everyone in Station Square. Since they've almost tied the game, Chuck decides to make some changes with his lineup. He has Cheese bat for Tanaka. Since Cheese is so small, Cheese ends up walking on four pitches. When Cream comes to bat, she asks the robot not to throw real hard with the cutest expression she can muster. The robot ends up balking, so Cream ends up on base, too. Knuckles hits another homerun to tie the game. Chris brings to everyone's attention that a crowd has gathered to watch the game. Sonic bunts to get himself on base, which makes it Chris' turn to bat. Chris is too intimidated by the speed of the pitches and closes his eyes as strikes one and two are called. Sonic calls time-out and gives Chris a little pep talk. On the third pitch Chris swings and misses for strike three, but doesn't realize that the ball got away from the catcher until he hears Chuck yelling at him to run. Sonic rounds the bases and scores as Chris just makes it to first base before the throw.

Now the score is 36-35 in favor of Sonic's team and Eggman isn't happy. He has the head of one his robots attach itself to Sonic's head and sets it to blow up. Sonic knows that Eggman is just trying to get the other chaos emerald and tries to shake the head off by running around, but doesn't have any luck. Knuckles tells Sonic to jump and Sonic does so as Knuckles comes to knock the robot head off. The robot head blows up, but both Knuckles and Sonic avoid the blast. Eggman laughs and bids farewell noting that he has won since he still has a chaos emerald. The crowd applauds them for the game and Elmer Johnson, the owner, arrives. He tells Albert that he wants to move the current turf over to the new stadium that will be built after seeing the game on TV and needs Albert's help. As Albert agrees, Chuck comments that even though they lost the chaos emerald that they've all learned a lesson about working together.
